How would you have dealt with this?

I was at my hobby and few days ago. The teacher wanted to do a special project so that's what we did. It was suppose to be fun and a laugh. Obviously we are all being taught at the same time so not everyone gets it the first time which is fine and I'm understanding of that.

However a few people there decided to take it upon themselves to start snapping at me and another person. They wanted us to go faster which we couldn't physically do! I then heard bitchy comments which were quiet but loud enough I could hear. I bit my tongue and tried to shrug it off.

After a few more times of them snapping "faster" i snapped and said I'm going as fast as I can! They did then stop making comments. Then later one of the women started to try boss me around again and telling me I weren't doing something right. There was no right or wrong but I just weren't doing it the way she wanted. She's not the teacher. I just ignored her but it made me so cross because it was suppose to be a fun night! I heard her and the others making comments about others too. I absolutely hate mean girl energy and comments. I don't know why people feel the need for it.

How would you of dealt with this situation? Would you have done anything differently?

Oh give over with the outing nonsense.
Can you really be the only ones in the country doing whatever this thing is?

Edited

Exactly. Never in the history of mn has anyone been outed by just saying what their hobby is. Hobbies aren't as exclusive as people think. There will be hundreds of people up and down the country doing this 'outing' hobby 🙄

Speed line dancing - the mind boggles!

Are you allowed to tackle the other team troupe?

Out of 65 million of a population in UK only a handful of people do this outing hobby... don't think so.
Spot on Annascaul.

Ok yes pretty much this

This isn’t outing for crying out loud. Loads of people line dance!

mondaytosunday · 31/05/2025 16:27

I would have ignored then said as you did. If it continued I’d hope I would have said something along the lines of ‘I thought this was supposed to be fun, Mary, you are taking all the joy out of it’. I’m too old to care if someone gets offended after they have been bullying others.

Outing ?? Outing ??

why do people have these delusions of grandiosity?? 😂😂

the ‘hobby’ is clearly relevant to any useful discussion here !!

if you and the other can’t keep up with the others, making your own quilt, so what ..

cheer leading troop, yeah move your arse, keep up or we are all on OUR asses !!

so with the info you have given us ?? Who knows 😂😂

zaxxon · 31/05/2025 17:12

My guess is she's a stage actor in one of those "Twelve Shakespeare plays in 80 minutes" shows.

"Come ON, Ophelia!"

Hobby coyness is one of those ridiculous things that only exists on mumsnet. But anyway, where was the teacher in all of this?

Teaching another group of people something. She couldn't hear any of it. As I said it was quiet enough that I heard but not many others did
