Period undies brands' - the good and the bad?

If you've tried more than one brand of period underwear which brands do you rate and which would you advise against?

So far I've only tried M&S which have been good and Sainsbury's Love Luna which I leaked through on medium days so would not recommend.

My daughter uses modi bodi , never failed her . We tried m & s and did like them as much . She's autistic so they didn't "feel right ". And she has a wuka swimming costume . But also modi bodi swim shorts.

I've tried Modibodi. One of the pairs, which was light blue in colour, didn't work from day I bought them. They were expensive and brand new so I called the customer service line. They were very unhelpful and humiliated me by asking me to send photo evidence of the stains. They then said that as I had washed them at 30 degrees (on one occasion) rather than a cold wash, that I was not entitled to a refund. I have had the other pairs I bought at the same time for about 4 years now and never had a problem (despite transitioning to washing at 30 degrees). Still annoys me that the customer service was so bad.

I've been using the Cheeky brand cotton period pants for around 3 years now. I've been really happy with them. They're comfortable to wear and have never leaked

Tesco are good. I had a pair of Modi bodi ones but they were pinched by DD.

Primark. I've never tried any others as the prices are ridiculous, and I can't afford to waste money on something that I wasn't convinced would work.
Honestly the Primark ones are a game changer. I have never leaked or had an mishaps and would throughly recommend them.
Not sure if they sell other types but I bought a pack of three in grey and black, there are a ribbed pattern. You get 1 heavy and 2 medium and I think they were about £10.00, so after trying them out I bought another pack so have plenty now.
I hand wash them without fabric conditioner and either stick them on the radiator or peg outside and they are wearing very well.
Oh yeah nearly forgot, I also have some from Shein which I use for bed on light days/nights and they are OK too but I've never tried them on heaver days.

top - uniqlo
good - rovi
fail - something of amazon

I got some from Aldi of all places. Pretty cheap. I’ve been happy with them but they are a backup to a cup rather than sole protection.

WUKA super stretch super heavy are PHENOMENAL. Well worth the money - easy to look after. They fit soooo well and keep me dry on heavy period for 12 hours so I just change them in the morning and in the evening. Have easily saved the money I spent on them by not buying pads. They're good for at least 48 washes and I've bought around 14 pairs through sales/discounts, which means they should last me around 4 years. Even if you bought a 5 pack of the most absorbent ones at full price, that's £19.79/48= £0.41 a wear. Bargain.

Lots of brands like M&S, Modibodi and Primark use silver-based chemicals to keep the smell out and you don't want this anywhere near your downstairs bits. Using silver in clothes isn't regulated in the UK so there isn't really a known safe level and it's really polluting for the environment. The WUKA ones literally don't use anything like that, and they don't smell. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Innersy from Amazon. Work v well

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 31/05/2025 10:14

DD's opinion (nearly 14)

Love Luna - absolute rubbish
Modi Bodi - bombproof
Primark - surprisingly good, especially those sold as sports shorts.

I would have been narked too.

TBH I can't be bothered with special washing routines. Mine get rinsed and then chucked in the wash alongside everything else so that includes fabric softener, 40 degrees and in colder weather a tumble dry. Especially the drying part as sometimes the knickers can take 2 full days to dry otherwise if you just hang them on the airer if it's chilly and you want to use them again, it's just not pratcial . I do think period knickers should be able and be designed to be able to withstand normal washing procedures.
