Toddler outraged at my birthday

Anyone else had this?! DD is just shy of two and it was my birthday today. We've had a few family birthdays recently so she's got a pretty good idea of how they work now. Whenever other birthdays have been coming up she's started to ask about presents, cake, candles etc. and generally been quite excited. But today she was absolutely raging 😅 DH was working and I was off with her (non-working day) so we weren't going to do anything elaborate but she still cried when DH asked if she wanted to give me my present, cried when she saw the cake ("no - take candles off"), and kept saying "take cards down" and "mummy's birthday all done".

Tried to keep things normal otherwise but she was really acting up. Is this just what it's like with young DC? I'm not massively bothered - I'm not one for a big fuss - but it does feel a bit crap to have spent the day essentially being shouted/cried at and that's it for another year!

My grandson was like this at 2 and was absolutely enraged by his older brother's birthday. He tried to mess up the cake and cried and tantrummed all day. He's 16 now and lovely.

Who doesn’t love a toddler?!

Happy Birthday op!!

My dd hated the whole Happy Birthday and candles on the cake at that age. We weren't allowed to sing it to her at all. In fact she still won't sing it to other people really, I think she finds it a bit intense. It's not singing that's the issue because she sings in the school choir.

I can remember doing things like this as a child myself (albeit probably a bit older than 2). For example, my much older cousin had a sort of flower hair clip that I absolutely loved and really wanted. After pestering for ages to try it on, my cousin relented and arranged it artfully in my hair. No sooner was it in, than I tore it out bawling hysterically. No idea why. It didn't hurt, it looked pretty, there was absolutely no logic. Kids!
