How strict are EasyJet with cabin bag size?

Any EasyJet experts out there?

I don’t think I’ve flown with EasyJet before, but I’m flying with them next month. I’ve paid for a suitcase in the hold, but I notice the cabin bag permitted dimensions are 45x36x20cm. The cabin bag I usually take on flights is about 54x32x20cm. So it’s basically nearly 10cm too tall. I’m wondering if I’ll get on with that, or if they won’t let me.

It’s annoying because I just know that if I buy a smaller bag to comply with the rules, I’ll see people bringing enormous trunks on to the plane!!

They were very strict when I went away a few weeks ago.

Inverness to Gatwick.
Fined £48 at Inverness despite having bought a new case that supposedly fitted their dimensions. What it didn't say was that the wheels made it too big for their cage.
Gatwick - walked on with nobody bothering about it

You might be lucky

They measured every single bag both ways on a recent flight. Of course it might be fine but it might not. Just get a cheap duffle bag or backpack that fits. Or pay for the bigger bag.

I've flown recently with them twice.
Flying from Inverness, they checked and weighed every single bag of every passenger. Passengers were fined on the spot if their bag was even slightly big.
Flew back from Gatwick and no-one checked!

However they only measure you're bag at boarding as far as I know. And every passenger is allowed 1 carrier bag of shopping from the airport shops.

I was advised to go through security then buy a bottle of water and get a bag (which was disgustingly overpriced in itself) and put things in the carrier bag so my backpack could be squeezed down more if needed.

Last time I travelled with them, I had to pay extra on the way out as my cabin bag was over their new limits. On the way back I got stopped again (as expected) - the guy asked me to put it in the tester thing, then suddenly changed his mind and said it was fine. Expect the unexpected - you might be lucky!

Very at times.

Just buy some of those £10 Amazon jobs that are the exact right measurements .

Don’t be annoyed - they may have paid for a large cabin bag so can take a larger one.
We’ve flown twice with EJ in the past month and I think it’s unlikely you’d get away with the size you say as free luggage. Possibly ok if you pay for a large cabin bag.

@Longhotsummers I can’t see an option for a larger cabin bag. There is a range of hold bag options, but in the cabin bag section it just shows the 45x36x20 one.
