I think it is fair enough at six months to say they have lived there rather than a holiday, which is much shorter typically.

I'd say 'living' somewhere (as opposed to traveling or having an extended holiday) involves staying in a fixed place, eg renting a flat, and having some kind of job or formal study to do every day. So six months of moving around between different hostels in India while 'finding yourself' is travel; spending six months teaching English there or on secondment from your company is living.

I worked in Germany for six months years ago (rented a studio flat, had a formal employment contract, resident's permit, opened a bank account etc) and I would say that counts as living there. Six months is probably about the minimum, though.

I'd say shorter than six months if you were in your own home (owned or rented) and paid for utilities there, as opposed to company flat or extended stay apartment.

I think 6 months in the same country definitely counts as living there for me, possibly shorter than that if you were in a fixed place and paying rent and bills etc.

Depends what you are doing. If you are in one or two places and are working, then you are living there. If you’re going a tourist and travelling around, then maybe not.

Six months fixed living I'd count as living there. Six months travelling would be tourism.
