Nice places you’ve visited around the Midlands or anywhere else in the UK?

A bit random but I want to start getting out a bit more for days out/short breaks. I think we’ve been to most of the obvious and most well known places

Has anyone got anywhere lovely that they e been. It can be a paid for attraction or just a great town or a park that’s worth a visit.

Literally anywhere that is beautiful or interesting for adults and upper primary aged kids.

The county of Rutland in the East Midlands. It hasn't got a city and 2 small towns, but Oakham has quite a few places to eat. There is Rutland Water which has some activities from routes to walk to hiring a bike, go on the Rutland Belle, look up activities like hiring canoes, kayaks or paddleboards. There is Rutland Farm park if you have children and Rutland Water has an aqua park. You can drive about 20-30 minutes to nearby Stamford which is a lovely town, bit posh, but has a cinema, Burghley House to go in or walk for free around outside and it has a herd of deers. If you want a rural getaway then that area is perfect to visit.

I was just coming on to say Rutland, we had a week there last year. It's like the Cotswolds without the hordes of tourists. I'd add Rockingham Castle and village and Uppingham to the above list of places.

There isn't much to actually see in Uppingham though. I grew up in Rutland and Oakham was dull, but it had more shops than Uppingham. Uppingham is so small and the main square part has a pub, dentist, a very decent DIY/hardware store and a few shops. The shops there are posh with most independent and what I call "bits n pieces" for sale at expensive prices and a private school. Rockingham Castle is a great suggestion too. I forgot about that.

And the Olive Branch in Clipsham is very pretty and lovely for lunch. Or the Blue Ball in Braunston.
