Itchy bits / menopause?

Sensitive itchiness...
Not an Infection, no discharge, not all the time, cotton undies, not using anything other than water to wash the area...
Is this intermittent itching another weird menopause issue???

It could be vaginal dryness connected to your hormones.

Shelly1973ish · 26/05/2025 12:07

Vaginal Atrophy, possibly the worst ans least spoken about menopause symptom!

Cedrabbage · 26/05/2025 12:12

Apparently topical oestrogen is the treatment for this

It's not internal itching.
All external

If you have white patches it could be lichen sclerosis. Particularly if you have any other autoimmune conditions.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 26/05/2025 12:34

Yes, it's absolutely another joy of peri & menopause. I suffered for a long time and a few months ago started on Vagifem (little capsules that you insert with a wand) and it has totally cleared up! I'm on HRT so this is in addition to the patches & pills but my doc said it can be given to women who aren't on HRT and can be a real life-saver. It can be used indefinitely (you initially use it every night for 2 weeks and then twice-weekly after that) she said she has patients in their 80s and 90s who use it!

I had the same and I use estriol cream

I've had a check and no visible issues, also no discharge or odour

Was it all external? Like where your knickers would be? And weirdly, was it more at a specific tome of day?

Yes topical oestrogen is needed. I’m 42 and been on it for 4 months, use it twice a week and it’s changed my life. Honestly, see dr.

Will do.
I've given it a while , upped hygiene, changed underwear etc but it's doing my head in

Shower, don't bath. Try washing with an emoilent cream like epiderm. And use it as a moisturiser after showering. You say you've upped hygiene - don't wash more than once a day, it can be very drying which in itself can cause itching. Also have a look at using non-bleached toilet paper. There's a few brands available online. The residue of the bleach they use to make TP white can be an irritant.

What brand do you use?

MyKingdomForACat · 26/05/2025 14:03

@TheGrimSmile I use Estriol 1mg cream. Used to have the brand name Ovestin but it’s the same stuff made by the same pharmacy company, just a different name
