I've been up since 05.00 and about to have mango chunks and yoghurt - already had coffee.

I'll have a second breakfast around 11.00! 🍳🥑 🌞

Poor things!!

how is your eldest now??

how old are they now? We've both been on MN for Donkeys, but I've name changed & my memory isn't what it was 🤣

He is much better. He had some issues breathing after a drinking game and that led to a full on anxiety attack. He was very scared bless him.

He’s 18 - 19 this year!

itsgettingweird · 25/05/2025 15:14

Hate to admit when I woke up at 5am starving I ate some GF chocolate chip cookies!

Have salvaged it though as just had chicken salad for lunch!

That made me wish I could bring you a really good packed lunch. I hope your work day flies by and you have a lovely dinner.

had beans on toast

Edited

I do need to get into the habit of taking some more filling/healthier foods with me, I always beat myself up about how bad my diet is, especially at work but I struggle to change it.

2 hours left until home time! Very much looking forward to dinner. And I'm off tomorrow!

Poor thing! That must have been scary for him, just doing something that's basically 'rite of passage'

18/19 😳. I think they'll all still be proper 'kids' in my mind!!

hope he feels'back to normal' by tomorrow! Do they know specifically what he needs to avoid??

Bizarrely they picked up on a chest infection whilst we were there so sent him home with antibiotics and told to rest!
I watched a recording of it, he and some rugby mates were doing a “boat race” saw him neck his pint but start coughing. He said he accidentally inhaled a lot of the drink, you could see the panic and concern on his face, the poor thing.

Poor thing, that's definitely scary!

However, I guess the 'good news' is that it was the inhalation of liquid & not a reaction to something, so nothing that will cause an ongoing issue for him!!

Hopefully the antibiotics will see off the chest infection & he will be feeling back to normal in a day or so xx

Eating it now, been up since 6.45 but couldn't make up mind whether to have eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes or scrambled eggs on toast. 🤔

Am eating two slices of malt loaf with butter instead. 😀

CalicoPusscat · 26/05/2025 08:32

I was thinking about tea and a scone with jam and cream 😳

Then scrambled eggs in a bit

Avocado with lime, chilli and seeds on sourdough. I really wanted a poached egg but I’m useless at them and am now googling egg pans. Would’ve loved some smoked salmon too!

Have you tried microwaving for poached eggs? Takes about 40 seconds. I’ve just had these - it can be a bit hit or miss as you can see the bottom one is a bit overcooked.

What's for breakfast on this cloudy but brightening-up Sunday morning?

How do you microwave them @Westfacing ?

EleanorReally · 26/05/2025 08:54

i used to love poached eggs, i had a poacher and would fill the bottom with butter
without the butter, i find poached eggs tasteless personally
i might scramble some, or fry one, more likely

ssd · 26/05/2025 08:51

How do you microwave them @Westfacing ?

Method:

2 teacups, 1 saucer, 1 wooden cocktail stick

Break an egg into each cup, pierce egg with cocktail stick, add about 1" of cold water, place saucer on top of one cup and microwave for about 35 seconds, check if look done, do another 10 seconds if required. Whilst you're draining the first egg on kitchen paper, do the other egg!

It is trial and error, depending on microwave, and eggs.

The piercing is said not to be essential but as I have the sticks I do it.

Saucer on top is ESSENTIAL - I once used just kitchen paper on top and egg exploded all over the microwave!

I’ve had a rhubarb yogurt and a couple of slices of toast with butter and marmalade along with cups of tea and coffee.

I’ve tried poached eggs in the microwave and I agree that they’re very hit and miss.

ssd · 26/05/2025 09:05

Thanks @Westfacing . Do you pierce the egg once or a few times, also does piercing it on the yolk not burst it and it goes all runny before you start?

Westfacing · 26/05/2025 09:09

Pierce just once - the yolk doesn't run.

It's said to stop the yolk exploding I think - a bit like piercing a baked potato if you did it in the microwave.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 26/05/2025 10:08

thanks @Westfacing, I’ve never thought to microwave them but I’ll give it a go before I splurge on another niche kitchen item!

BiddyPopthe2nd · 26/05/2025 11:01

Yesterday, I had proper Irish sausages (brought from home and frozen on a recent visit) and pudding, with coffee. Followed by some cherries. While watching those with more dedication than I coming past my balcony in the annual 20.3km eu /walk (over 76,000 participants).

This morning, a workday - lemon juice/ginger/honey/hot water; berry/yoghurt/oats/almond butter smoothie; coffee and a nectarine.

BeNiceWhenItsFinished · 26/05/2025 11:02

I had a cheeseburger at the car boot sale. Not my normal Monday breakfast, that's for sure!

ssd · 26/05/2025 11:06

Tea and toast with honey and just had a lovely frothy coffee.

EleanorReally · 26/05/2025 11:07

i had scrambled egg on olive sour dough toast,
delicious

ssd · 26/05/2025 11:08

Ah ok, thanks again @Westfacing
