People stopping like this at traffic lights

Has anyone else noticed a bizarre increase of drivers stopping at least a full cars length away from the white line at a red light? It’s so odd, why is it happening? I’m sure it never used to be a thing but recently I’ve noticed it more and more Confused

It’s usually older people in very small cars that I see do it. Weirdly usually silver or metallic pale blue cars. Often I’ve noticed their cars have dents in the back which make me think they regularly slam on their brakes unexpectedly and irrationally

Or possibly that the old people in question have been targeted by criminals who deliberately rear end vulnerable looking people and then extract money out of them either via their insurance companies or in a ‘cash payment settlement’. Happened to my mother, and she definitely became more cautious after that about leaving space

you leave space for motorbikes that aren’t there? But not for pushbikes that aren’t there?

If you have left a space you can’t decide only motorbikes are going to use it. Do you jump out and shoo away pushbikes and tell them the space you left was for motorbikes only? 🫤

You can’t be referring to motorbikes and pushbikes that are there because obviously if they are there you would leave space for either/both. Otherwise you’d be mowing them down and likely be typing from jail.

Goodness me, reading comprehension isn't your strong suit is it? I clearly leave room if I know motorbikes are nearby, I don't allow cyclists to go in front of me. Not that difficult is it? I'm not delirious and imagining any road users, I just use my eyes. I was simply giving an example of when I would leave a gap in front of my car, which relates to this thread- does that help? I wish it was legal to mow down pushbikes though haha

If that’s the reason they have bumps, then the person behind is driving too close. Are you aware of the concept of braking distance?

@DazedAndConfused321 “I don’t allow cyclists to go in front of me” - what do you mean?

The Highway Code changed for cyclists a couple of years ago. You might want to familiarise yourself with the changes.

When someone driving weirdly has more than one bash in the back of the car it’s more likely to be a them problem. Breaking distance isn’t infallible. When someone stupidly and pulls out of a side road in front of you then suddenly and inexplicably slams on the breaks or swerves into the lane next door then there is going to be a collision.

My reading comprehension is fine. Your writing skills are sadly woefully lacking.

Again you insist you won’t allow pushbikes to go in front of you.

How? Do you wave them away? Yell that you left the space for motorcycles only and throw a grumpy strop?
