Early Rosacea

I have the early start of mild rosacea - flushing on nose and surrounding cheek area, some tiny blood vessels are apparent and a few tiny pustules. I didn’t know why it didn’t occur to me before - I’ve had little flares like this for a few months, but I’ve just checked symptoms online and I’m 99.9% certain.

I never wear face make up, use water and a flannel to wash face, simple skin care etc.

Whats the best way forward for this? Does anyone have advice please? Or is this a case of seeing my GP?

My GP was useless. I use Rosalique which works for me but others think it’s too orange. I’ve got fairly tanned skin (when it’s not too Rudolph like) but if you’re pale you might want something else. There are various rosacea threads here - check them out for other ideas.

Find a dietitian familiar with the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Allergy Centre Elimination diet. There are some listed in this website. Many do Skype appointments, I bet.

Dairy, glutamates/MSG and salicylates seem to be major problems.

I use metrogel (metronidazole gel), which you can get a prescription for from your GP (GPs are generally useless for skin complaints - I had to go to a dermatologist to get a diagnosis - so if you've got a diagnosis already that's good). You need to use it for 2-3 months every day to start with, then when you've got it under control you can just use it for a few days when you get a flare-up.

Not “I bet” but “I believe “.

Side note: me and new iPad are going to be having words about autocorrect and predictive text.

I have to take oral antibiotics for mine lymecycline. Don’t particularly like being on them long term but none of the creams worked for me and I tried a lot!! I tend to do 3 months on 1 month off. It keeps it very well controlled and only really get flushing when I’m due on and towards the end of the month off I sometime get the pain & pustules starting.

I cleanse my skin with a cleanser for rosacea and then rinse with deionised water ( buy it from the car section in B&Q ). We have hard water and I think our tap/shower water causes flare ups. Apply Soolantra prescribed by GP. Definitely improved.

Thanks everyone.
lots of food for thought here.
its the worst it’s been - looks like I’ve been in the sun too long and its feel rather inflamed. I think I’ll try my GP on Monday. I have no idea what type of water is around here.

my diet is good - no UPF at all, no sugar apart from honey and plenty of protein etc.

Well, as honey is very high in salicylates, it may be one of your problems. See my link above.

You can use online pharmacies for this to get the creams etc. I’ve just done an online ‘consultation’ and got some rozex gel to try. Cost me £20 and whilst cheaper on prescription from the GP I couldn’t be bothered with the faff.

Ive yet to see how effective it is.

I’ve also simplified my skincare with cerave moisturiser.

Well well!
I’ll give that up this week - see how it goes. I have about a teaspoon a day in my oats, but will have to give it up if it’s causing this.

I use Metrogel as prescribed by my GP. Diagnosed 20 plus years ago now. Avoid anything oil based on your skin too.
