Recommendation for gluten free products that actually taste nice (if such a thing exists?)

I will first state that I don't have coeliac disease so don't need to go completely gluten free.

But I have suffered with gut issues for 30 years and have spent many years experimenting with my diet, I know my trigger foods and avoid them. I also follow the low fodmap diet. My main triggers are diary foods, garlic, onions, eggs (so sad about this one), fatty foods and several fruits and veg.

One food that I really struggle to give up but know it upsets me is bread. I know it's most likely not the gluten but the fructans. I have tried many different sourdough breads but they upset me a lot too.

Over the last month I have given up eating bread, crackers and anything with gluten/fructans in them. I have started to feel a bit better so I do need to continue to see how I feel over the next few months.

I really don't enjoy food if I am honest and I like what I like. (which isn't a lot tbh). I have tried endless alternatives to things but none of them taste nice imo.

Breakfast is my biggest stumbling block. I don't have a sweet tooth at all and just can not face cereals or diary-free yogurt/fruit. I adore toast, toast for breakfast with avocado and peanut butter or occasionally a bacon sarnie is my go-to but I just can not find a gf bread that I enjoy. They either have a funky after-taste or a weird texture which turns my stomach. I have tried all the supermarket own brands, M&S and Waitrose, Schar, Warburtons etc. Many have egg as an ingredient in them which I can not tolerate and/or high fodmap ingredients. I even tried making my own (disaster and a waste of expensive ingredients). I do make a gf flatbread which is ok but not great if I am honest.

I long to find a decent and enjoyable gf bread but I feel that I am on a wild goose chase looking for something which is never going to tick all the boxes (or indeed taste nice).

I can do ok at lunch with salads and oat crackers and dinner is usually a naturally gf affair but I really struggle at breakfast.

I miss proper toast so much.

I like the look of those bagels and all ingredients which I think I should be ok with, thanks.

@Bluespecsthe bagels this poster recommends are from the gf bakery I recommended a few posts ago. Have a look their website, expensive but pretty good

Ooh - this interests me too.

I'm not allergic to gluten, but I've developed an intolerance over time. I can eat it, but will have stomach issues later.

Warburtons tiger loaf is pretty good, also promise is a fave here too. 3 coeliacs in our house so have tried most breads, that would be my advice, try things and see if you like them, we all love corn thins by Sainsburys- like a rice cake but GF, great with peanut butter in for a quick brekkie

Quite a few thumbs up for Promise, tbh I'd never heard of them before this thread.

Same here, I am able to tolerate a little bit but it's really starting to upset me quite a bit now. I am hoping if I leave it out for a while I can slowly re-introduce and tolerate it better at a later date.

It’s all pretty horrible tbh. The Gail’s bread mentioned by a pp is ok, better toasted. And bizarrely, Warburtons GF crumpets, although haven’t checked ingredients for egg.

for breakfast, I like the Spanish omelettes they sell in supermarkets, especially the one with spinach. Appreciate that’s no help to you, OP but might be interesting for other GF people watching this thread.

I've been Coeliac for over 40 years, and I'm in my 40s. I make bread in a breadmaker which is just like normal bread but I use flour that I get on prescription (and it's not wheat free so probably no use to you unfortunately).

I've tried most supermarkets breads too. A few mentioned (Warburton's tiger bread, Promise bread) I find perfectly acceptable as a sandwich but completely rubbish as toast. I don't mind the Schar ciabatta rolls (cut in half then) toasted though.

I’ve just had a ‘Creative Lunch’ turkey salad sandwich on white gluten free bread at the local leisure centre.

wasn’t bad - the only gluten free sandwich available.
