Which tracker is best to track my children?

Sayithowiseeit · 23/05/2025 23:38

I'm trying to find a good tracker for my children, the itagpro sounds good but I couldn't work out if it was hyped up as the review person had a discount on it.

The air tag, can it only be used with an i phone? As I have an Android.

Is there any other good ones? I need it to be accurate and be able to manage distances.

Any help would be appreciated please
Thank you

My children track each other, and friends however they are adults now, but I don't use tracking apps.

Ruggerlass · 24/05/2025 19:13

I don’t get all this tracking nonsense. No wonder children grow up with no life skills. Helicopter parenting comes to mind.

Sayithowiseeit · 24/05/2025 19:25

I created the thread for recommendations not a bashing of my parenting or to have to explain myself. Thanks for everyone who has been helpful

Phone trackers just tell you where the phone is, I'm not a professional child abucter but the first thing I would do is smash the phone.

If I wanted to hid my location from my DW/DH I would just leave my phone in the place they thought I was going to be.

I've never understood how tracking keeps anybody "safe".

RedRiverShore5 · 24/05/2025 20:05

I gave DH an AirTag so I can see how he is doing on his 100 mile walk this weekend.

Thelostjewels · 24/05/2025 20:18

We've only recently started life 360 it's absolutely brilliant.
I can see exactly where they are when I'm on various pick ups, they can see where I am, I can see if someone's late if younger DD gets home alone I know she's in safely.

I doubt anyone is getting one in case their child is abducted, very vivid imagination you have there.

crackadawn · 24/05/2025 21:48

We use 360.

I think it's odd that those would be against it, but then again I'm a true crime reader, I would chip mine if I could.

So why have one then?

I honestly struggle with this desire to track children. If they know they’re being tracked you’re not equipping them with the skills to deal with whatever situations occur and if they don’t know it’s basically creepy.

Completely agree. I don’t understand why either - also at what point do parents stop the tracking? Hope no one is tracking their 18 year old at university would be so creepy

golemmings · 25/05/2025 07:51

We use family link. It allows you to control apps, game time, turns the phone off overnight. It has a tracker on it which was very useful when DD dropped her phone when she was a young teen. We found it in the undergrowth where she'd been walking with her dad, but it saved us having to repeat the whole walk!

Gall10 · 25/05/2025 07:53

I have a couple of questions for original poster

  1. How old are the children you don’t trust?
  2. why don’t you trust them?
  3. how did your parents track you?

This is the only correct response to the original post!

We have used Life360 as a family for the past year, and it’s great. And free! Our 11yo DD is out lots with her friends and we can see where she is and when she’s on her way back. She can also see where we are which is also useful. My DH travels lots and I can see when he’s due home without multiple phone calls and messages. When we’re out and about together but have gone off in different directions ie shopping in town, there are no more phone calls trying to describe where we are. Also very useful for misplaced phones - my DH has in the past called (from another phone) asking if I can tell him where his phone is! I also use it to track my own walks. We are all absolutely comfortable with this so it has been fantastic for us.

TellmethestoryofO · 25/05/2025 08:02

“How old are the children you don’t trust?” Ha, ha get over yourself! 😂😂
A question has been asked, why do you feel the need to respond in this way. Very silly.

Thelostjewels · 25/05/2025 08:14

@Gall10 @Ruggerlass because maybe it's not about not trusting the child?

I've had two pick ups this week one where I was caught in unexpected traffic and was 30 mins late but she can see and track me and was able to walk to me without me having to communicate
Second time I took a wrong turn and again she could see me.

Today younger DD is doing a sleepover and I'm not sure of the itinerary they may go to a park so again I can just see where she is later.

Older DD doesn't go out to pubs but there is also a one press sos alert and if she ever got spiked she could press that and alert us instantly.

It's been so convenient thus far and yes it also helped us find a phone DD had left in a cafe.

backinthebox · 25/05/2025 08:25

We just use the Find Friends app. There is no ‘lack of trust’ issue. We compete in orienteering and adventure sports as individuals, my children have been doing so since they were 10. It’s handy to know how far round the course they are to get an idea for when you need to be at the finish line. DH is the one most likely to need someone to come and rescue him from the forest though!

TheNightingalesStarling · 25/05/2025 08:29

There was a massive fuss when my DD was in Yr5 as it turned out a few of the kids were leaving their phones where they were supposed to be, so they could go and have fun elsewhere...

ArtemisiaTheArtist · 25/05/2025 08:29

Mine is a young adult now, and I never tracked her, despite my tendency for helicopter parenting. We live in inner-ciry London if that makes a difference. She would just text me to say where she was and who she was with. I never tracked exDH when we were married either.

DD has had friends whose parents have used tracking apps which led to the kids not trusting their parents or being made to feel their parents don't trust them.

Why the urgent need to know when your DH will be home?

You don't know if your DD is on the way anywhere, the phone doesn't control her movements.

What is it with all this tracking nonsense these days . .

But this is for her children, to make sure they’re safe.

AirTags can be used sensibly, I have one for my dog.

How is it making sure they're safe?

So, you've told your DD to alert you if she had a medical emergency, and not the ambulance service, police, bar staff or anybody else who could actually help her?

🙄

But you can’t see where she is or where your DH is - only where their phones are.

Thelostjewels · 25/05/2025 09:22

@Chiseltip omg, imagine some random doing the biggest eye roll right now

Thelostjewels · 25/05/2025 09:23

@faerietales you see movement, and speed

When dh is running I can see where and his speed I know he's done when it's low speed.
You can see them driving and speed also

Which is extremely helpful when have got food ready and cooking!!
