HCA new job…now what!?

I’ve just been informed I’ve been successful getting a job as a HCA at my local hospital. There’s no information about a possible start date. Has anyone got any information about how long things might take to progress. I’ve sent for my DBS but worried when to hand my notice into my current job. I’ve heard the NHS can take ages with start dates. Has anyone on here have any experience. Thanks.

Do not hand in your notice! In my experience the norm is around 3 months, I guess that may vary by area. They will appreciate you will have to give notice to your current employer, wait until it is all finalised. And congratulations.

Thanks. They’re obviously going to ask for a reference which is annoying as my current job will know but not much else I can do I guess.

It can take a while, some seem quicker than others. I got another job in a different trust so lots of info transfered over but it still took around four weeks before i handed in my notice. Think my DBS took a couple of weeks. Keep an eye on the progress on TRAC.

Basically you don’t give your notice till all checks complete

Well done.
Don't do anything until you have your offer in writing. Especially now things in the nhs are changing all the time.
Dc started as a hc had interview end of may and started end of July.
Some trusts will want you to start on a specific date in a month (to do trust induction) Others will have a different way of organising it Expect it to take 2-3 months from interview to actually starting. The nhs are notoriously slow at this. Also if you come across someone good in hr alon the way take their details then when you haven't heard anything for a while ring them and prompt them to find out what the delay is.

NHS here, definitely don’t hand your notice in until you have confirmation that you have passed all the employment checks which will include references. Unfortunately your current employer will know so I would advise them in advance as a courtesy. It does take ages for all this to happen usually!

I currently work in education so would be handy to hand my notice in before the end of the summer term 🤞🏼 Those of you that are HCAs do you enjoy it? I applied never thinking I’d get it and now here we are 😬

Don’t hand your notice until all checks etc done. From the day I was offered my HCA job to start date was exactly 3 months….
