Could a seamstress/tailor fix this? Damaged dress :-(

Brand new, only purchased today.

My friend decided to pick me up and spin me around after trying it on to show them, this is the result.

It does fit.

I'm absolutely gutted. I fell in love with this dress and was planning to wear it for my upcoming birthday.

I can't sew to save my life.

Is this salvageable?

As per PP's (and me twice prior - bored now) the dress was not too tight.

It's a milkmaid dress. Milkmaid dresses have a fitted bodice. It is literally supposed to look like that. I have 4 dresses in this style and they all sit exactly the same. None of the others have ripped 😂

I'm just over 8 stone and a size 6 (occasionally an 8 depending on the shop) so if this is some strange attempt to make me feel overweight or body shame me it won't work.

I tried it on in the shop and it fits perfectly. Why on earth would I buy a dress that doesn't fit?

@SoapOnARopEeeee no one is trying to body shame you but I am saying I think you have a hard neck to take something back to a shop after ripping it while indulging in stupidity. However I've also learned on here about the cheapskates on here who wear clothing then take it back after an event so I suppose nothing should surprise me. There are obviously others like this too.

What on earth are you on about? How have I indulged in stupidity?

@SoapOnARopEeeee ,you tried on a dress that was at least a size too small for you (obviously, because the poster knows what size you are better than you do Smile), and you moved in it.

Utter stupidity obviously. Wink

Wanting it refunded because it wasn't up to the job? Brass neck? You're obviously a habitual offender when it comes to wearing something then returning it Hmm

Looks to me like absolutely terrible quality fabric and the construction isn’t what it needs to be to make a weak fabric work.
I think yanbu to expect a refund.

You can say it was not too tight @SoapOnARopEeeee but from the photos, and from the way it's ripped, it looks and sounds like it was. A well-fitting dress would not have ripped just because someone picked you up. You can buy a new one (though I would get a size bigger,) but I don't think you can demand a refund. The dress hasn't just ripped itself! I don't think the quality is poor, your friend messing about, and picking you up/spinning you around is why it ripped.

As I said above I had exactly this with a Me&Em dress that was very loose fitting and had about 12 inches of room - it is a manufacturing fault.

Why are you making this crap up? 🤷‍♀️

Look, just because you split the seams of your pants every time you sit down don't project that onto me and take it out on other people 🤷🏼‍♀️
