What usually happens at end of season sports?

Hey, I am a pretty 'new' sports mum. My DD suddenly became interested in a sport and encouraged by her PE Teacher we signed her up to a local club.

She played for a local team for a year and last year the coach suggested she try out for the local academy and she got a place! It's not a 'big name' but they are good and have a solid reputation. Anyway, the season has ended and they won their league. Really good and team has really bonded. But the club she plays for apparently doesn't do trophies, awards or allow them to pay tournaments. The team has been invited to national play offs and we found out these were last week but the club didn't accept the invitation. The second placed team in the league were offered the place instead and they went. They have also been invited to some more national tournaments but nothing. No medals no trophies (despite the league actually wanting to give these, but the club says no).

I am pretty new to all this team sports malarky and I am not sure whether this is the usual way things go? Last year when she finished with the local team they had a disco party and gave awards and medals. DD is U15 if it makes any difference?

Just wanted to gauge whether this is what ordinarily happens??

Well, I imagine there’s difference between an academy and a local team. If she’d prefer somewhere with more end of season partying, she could transfer back to her old team, I suppose? DS plays under-14 and the parents arranged a trip to a water park.

Mine were in several sports clubs over the years. One organised a party which was limited numbers and paid for (BBQ and rounders etc) but my DC and friends never really wanted to go as it was dominated by all the super confident cliquey ones. One did a prize-giving day but the DCs were not all that keen and fidgeted through it. They no longer do it but have a fun and games day at the start of the new season instead which I gather is better received (DC is in the adults team now). Another it was left to each individual team to organise a party if they wanted it. Medals tended to be handed out on the last day of the season. It is much better in the adults, they all just take themselves off for drinks and a curry or have a more formal dinner dance or similar.

Ok, thanks. I was more wondering about the club not supporting the tournaments etc. The team have already made plans themselves to do a little get-together away from any club arrangements.

Thanks for the comments, maybe I was expecting more! Its not a fancy shmanzy academy or anything.
