Hi - I've no idea.
Can you help? I don't need HRT yet (blood tests are all green and periods ongoing) but just for a health boost.
Can anyone recommend to me? Even better if I can look it up on Boots or Holland and Barrett!.

I started doing deep water aqua HIIT and deep water aqua pilates after a back injury, it's helped all of my joints and my core strength.

I had terrible joint pain during perimenopause. Used to wake me up at night. It vanished once I started proper menopause. I've never tried HRT. Vit D supplements and potassium helped a lot (eat a banana every other day).

Well, I hope mine clears up when I hit menopause!
I have mostly hip and knee pain that has gotten alot worse in peri (i was obese and on my feet alot most of my life, so lots of wear and tear).
I now take a multivit, omega 3, turmeric, collagen and HRT. Lost all the weight, regular exercise, try to keep to a low inflammatory diet and i still have to take painkillers some nights.
God knows what it would be like without all that crap!😆

Really bad hip pain and arthritis in fingers from early 40s. Turmeric capsules cured it all within a few days. Like a wonder drug.

Thanks all. I wondered if I was approaching menopause but only recently I was called for a well woman mot check up. As I hadn't been to doc for about five years (apart from a smear) they wanted a full blood check etc.
She showed me the screen and said I should thank my parents for good genes - there were about 30 boxes with a list of results and each of them were green (was a traffic light system apparently). And told me to use contraception! So that's why I thought menopause wasn't with me yet.
I shall continue with my vit Bs D and omega oils and look into turmeric and magnesium for now.
Interested to hear your experiences though.

I think the issue is the perimenopause can start up to ten years before actual menopause (which is one day a year after last period).

So you can get lots of symptoms well before menopause. I don’t think the blood tests at the doctors screen for hormonal levels in the well woman test. They have to be specifically ordered and are unreliable in perimenopause.

If you’re 50 you will definitely be in per-menopause. Many women are in their late 30s. Though you may be one of the lucky ones and not get many symptoms. Joint pain is definitely one though. Hopefully the supplements will help.

The NICE guidelines assume women are in Peri from 45.

its not just about when your periods stop - it’s leading up to that. Many GPs are not switched on about this (baffling but true)

When should I stop taking contraception?
In general you can stop contraception either:

  • 1 year after your last period – if over 50 years old,
  • 2 years after your last period – if under 50 years old, or
  • when you reach 55 years of age

NHS guidelines- so if you are having periods and below 55, they are going to recommend contraception! Doesn’t mean you aren’t perimenopausal.
