Is it a security risk for tickets not to be checked?

I went to a theatre show at the weekend, it was a tribute show with various acts, aimed at pre teens.

The staff did a bag check when we arrived but no one checked our tickets.

Is this a security risk? I’m just thinking of emailing the venue about it if it is.

I think it’s more a health and safety issue in terms of numbers in the building than a security one but yes I would raise it with the venue on that basis. Also if I paid good money for my ticket I wouldn’t want someone else just walking in without paying! I have never been to a show of any sort where they aren’t checking tickets- normally scanning a barcode etc on your phone these days

Wow, calm down. Do whatever you like, but don’t let fear and ‘what if’ rule your life

I’m not.

Yeh, same, I can’t think of a single event where tickets haven’t been checked. I’ve emailed the venue.

I’m not talking about a serious terrorist thread, I’m talking about a copy cat nut job with a knife, seeing a concert full of little girls being able to walk straight in off the street without challenge. I just thought a ticket check is such a quick and simple step and baring in mind the close proximity to the Southport attacks, it felt odd not to have one. I’ve never been to a single event that hasn’t checked tickets .

So someone has to be passing at the right time, with a knife in their bag, see kids going into a theatre and somehow know that ticket checks were not in place inside the venue?

bit of a stretch I reckon

It’s makes no sense business wise to not check the tickets, loads could be coming in for free! Or if it’s seated it’s a whole logistical nightmare if people who have no ticket take others seats. Ifs more stupid than a security risk

Of course they should be checked. They need to know they have the correct number of people in the audience for safety reasons.

I don't think I've ever been anywhere that didn't check / count everyone in.

They are not counting the people, well not to any level of accuracy anyway, audience members leave shows all the time without being counted out.

Even if it was a free event they need to control numbers for crowd safety and fire restrictions.

Plus obviously if its a paid event obviously they don't want people getting in for free.

Are you sure this wasn't happening?

No but it would take some serious pre planning to buy a ticket a year in advance in order to gain access to a venue rather than just do it on a whim.

You think terrorists don't plan their atrocities?
