Advice please! Child cracked molar. Photos attached!

My 10 year old has cracked her baby molar tooth tonight after bumping her chin. It is a little wobby as her adult molar is pushing through.

Do I need to take her the dentist to have this removed professionally or is it ok to wait until it naturally falls out? What will happen if the tooth falls out in two separate pieces? Will it hurt? She isn’t in any pain at all at the minute but I’m concerned about the tooth/crack trapping food.

Anyone dealt with this before? Wondering whether to book her into the dentist tomorrow!

Take her to the dentist first thing @Awcw1234 I wouldn't be guessing with stuff like this.
Good she's not in pain.

Its not urgent but needs assessing as that cracked tooth is stopping her adult tooth lining up properly. She's got her second molar already on the other side so that baby tooth needs removing as it should have been lost a while ago.

Do dentists remove baby teeth? Dentists have never seemed concerned about her still having them.

my son’s molars have all come through like this, on top of the baby teeth. When one naturally cracked and half came out. I took him to the dentist to have it checked and they weren’t concerned at all. They said the other half would follow when it was ready and after the baby tooth had fallen out, the adult tooth would move into position and that’s exactly what happened. We were extra careful with tooth brushing until the other half had fallen out because he said it was sore, but apart from that, it was all totally fine.

Your DD needs to see a dentist as she has a damaged tooth.

It feels like you're hoping to avoid the appointment? Take her as soon as you can, phone as soon as they are open.

My son had this happen at age 14 or 15. It was his last baby tooth and half had broken off. The dentist said it would fall out naturally and wasn't bothered. That didn't actually happen, it never fell out and he still had it at 16, but that was only because the adult tooth didn't grow directly below it. He had to have it taken out in the end otherwise it would probably still be there, but it wasn't an issue.

No, not at all. Not an issue at all taking her to be seen. I was just wondering how serious of an issue it is given it is a tooth that is wobbly and about to fall out anyway

Ah ok, apologies for misunderstanding.

I think most likely it'll be fine but I would get it checked.

Perfectly normal, as adult tooth comes through baby teeth are resorbed and often crack like this. This is the normal age to lose this baby tooth.

Just encourage your daughter to wobble the bits out , although eating will probably remove them anyway .

Thanks for the other responses. It sounds like this is quite common and won’t be an issue but I’ll phone the dentist just to be safe. Kids!!!

I recently cracked a molar. No pain so made a non urgent appointment with the dentist. A week before the appointment, and despite careful brushing, I developed an abscess - worst pain ever!! A course of antibiotics later, the dentist has now removed the tooth.
I appreciate that is a baby tooth but I would get her seen at the earliest opportunity just to prevent any further damage.

This is a baby tooth. As it has resorbed it has no nerve to get infected or abcessed , there is , literally, just a shell of enamel .

The only time it causes problems is if the child is scared or unwilling to wobble out the bits of tooth .

You seem to know what you are talking about. Are you a dentist? 🤣

I could say that I am a dentist of decades experience but you have no way of checking .
