Any sympathy for the British drug mule in Georgia?

I was reading about this girl and actually do have a little symapthy. She is obviously vain, stupid, misguidedly ambitious but I don't know whether she is real player in the drug trade and has probably been groomed into carrying drugs by men promising her the earth.

The penalties for drug smuggling are understandably harsh on Georgia but should the UK try and get her to serve a sentence in the UK?

Drug arrest girl 'in China scam to foil Amazon ban'

Culley, 18, is said to have received £550 in return for her passport information, which was then used to open a business account on the digital marketplace.

Yes, innocent child, no idea at all what she was doing 🙄

There’s a 35 year old from
derby recently in similar circumstances in Dubai with a young child at home. I have read one article about him
not the press attention like this young lady. Is that because he’s male, older and covered in tattoos?

I read somewhere that she may face life in prison though!

Looking on the bright side - she'll become fluent in a foreign language!

I have some sympathy as she's only 18.

I do wish girls and young women would cease with all this posing and pouting and uploading selfie-videos in nothing more than their underwear.

I do think TikTok, influencers, reality TV, etc that promote physical beauty, and possessions beyond the means of ordinary people, dulls the brain and leads young people into a sort of cloud-cuckoo land where they can't grasp what real life is all about.

I recently had a neighbour like that always in Turkey getting work done her husband works offshore and has no idea what she is like. She is 35 and has a 5 year old. She is constantly drinking and taking cocaine and is actually going insane with paranoia. I moved bevause of her lunacy and she has made me look at all these people with fake faces and bodies and in a whole new way. I’d rather look like a badgers arse than be like anyone who lives this lifestyle

If she is indeed pregnant then I feel sorry for the child. But not for her.

She signed up as a director for a Chinese business to get them round a ban by Amazon - how dodgy were they to get banned by Amazon?

She then risked her unborn child by drug smuggling?

No, not sympathetic.

how dodgy were they to get banned by Amazon?

My first thought too. That's astonishing !

I was never a drugs mule!

"...they're still children..."

The law disagrees with you. She's an adult.

So does MN usually.

Couldn't count the number of posts theres been on here where posters are advised to kick their 18 year olds out of home because "they're adults now" but when a white British adult is caught drug smuggling then suddenly she's a child until she's 25.

But of a difference between sneaking out late at night and lying to parents vs smuggling drugs through the border though 🤣

Awobabobob · 18/05/2025 09:46

I remember my sister got caught shoplifting in boots when we were 15. She got arrested and sent to the local police station. Our dad had to go there and sit in the room while they interviewed her. Apparently the look on my dads face (maximum fury crossed with disappointment) put her off every doing anything like that again.

This girl sounds like someone who’s never faced consequences before.

RumAndDietCoke · 18/05/2025 09:47

Literally no sympathy whatsoever. She played with fire and she’s been burned 🤷‍♀️ Why should us mugs all be over here working honest jobs whilst all she’s doing is carrying drugs and then waving around wads of cash?!! I’ll stick to the honest life thanks and enjoy being with family and friends doing fun stuff whilst she’s locked up in a shit hole wasting her life.

Tigergirl80 · 18/05/2025 09:47

No she knew what she was doing. She’s made her bed so she can lie in it.

RunningJo · 18/05/2025 09:47

abracadabra1980 · 18/05/2025 09:14

I have sympathy-she's young and has done something daft. The authorities should go after the big boys and drug cartels behind this kind of situation. It is well known that a child's brain isn't fully developed until they are 25.

I’m not sure drug smuggling comes under the ‘something daft’

MonoMono · 18/05/2025 09:47

I remember a post once about an 18 year old being pregnant, where a few posters suggested far too young, should have an abortion etc.

There was a pile on of people then claiming 18 was old enough, they had babies at that age, even younger... 18 is an adult etc. etc.

Now we have a drug smuggler too young and naive, vulnerable even, at 18 didn't know what they were doing blah blah.

This place is weird when it comes to how young adults are viewed.

IMO, she was exceptionally stupid, driven by greed. But she knew what she was doing and will pay the price with many years of her freedom. I don't have any sympathy for drug mules or smugglers.

Koalafan · 18/05/2025 09:48

No sympathy for anyone involved in drug transportation.

Would you have sympathy if she wasn't white?

Yeah, no. I was a complete idiot when I was young, yet somehow managed not to smuggle drugs into Georgia. I mean, FFS.

Tigergirl80 · 18/05/2025 09:47

Yep. As the saying goes, don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Silvertulips · 18/05/2025 09:50

I think there needs to be punishment but for her life to be literally over for a single episode of drug smuggling?

It was a suitcase full, not a gram of weed.

It’s difficult, yes she’s young, for in with the wrong crowd, probably love bombed into the lifestyle.

Stupid thing to do, but there’s probably cohesion involved and it’s never the ring leaders getting cought.

Chloe793 · 18/05/2025 09:50

I have sympathy for her, 6 months ago she was probably still considered a child. She isn't carrying heroin, she's carrying cannabis (not that I agree with any drugs, I'm very against all drugs). She's not committed any violent crime, she's probably been groomed into thinking she can make loads of money easily and the really dangerous characters will just carry on without giving her a second thought.

I would have the same sympathy for any 18 year old - unless they had a history of violence or threatening violence as many involved in drugs seem to have.

She's pissed her life up the wall thinking she's being clever and now she's paying for it. She deserves to go to jail but I hope she doesn't get 20 years and I really hope she isn't pregnant. I think it's good that the story is everywhere to hopefully put other kids off doing the same.

I was definitely stupid but never did anything jail worthy. I was thinking about it bevause my daughter is twelve and to me 18 doesn’t seem that much older but I think lolling at this girl she was always going to get into trouble. She obviously thinks she is clever judging by her social media and those posts have literally just provided evidence. Insane.

When i was 21 I travelled in thailand and we met this nice group of lads living there fom our home town who we hang around with. They gave me a book 'forget you had a daughter' an auto biography of a girl who this happened to. And endes up doing a decade in a thai prison.
Suggest this reading for anyone whos kids are travelling or planning to.
It explains how a nice kid can end up like this.
Its a good book to read regardless and anyone with interest in how this can happen should read it.

Edited

I read that when I lived in SE Asia. I was always extremely careful when travelling in case anything was planted on me or in my luggage. I definitely knew not to take anything for anyone else no matter how close a friend they were. And this was in the late 1990s-early 2000s.

Exactly. I remember being absolutely hammered because I didn't charge my adult DC rent in their own home. But they're adults! They should pay their way!
Unless you're a drug mule, obviously. A young white female drug mule.

cryinglaughing · 18/05/2025 09:53

No sympathy.
Unless she is a complete simpleton, she knew what she was doing.
