Any sympathy for the British drug mule in Georgia?

I was reading about this girl and actually do have a little symapthy. She is obviously vain, stupid, misguidedly ambitious but I don't know whether she is real player in the drug trade and has probably been groomed into carrying drugs by men promising her the earth.

The penalties for drug smuggling are understandably harsh on Georgia but should the UK try and get her to serve a sentence in the UK?

Culley, 18, is said to have received £550 in return for her passport information, which was then used to open a business account on the digital marketplace.

I'm just wondering why posters want to bring back Shamima Begum who joined the most misogynist group of men on steroids, who raped women and took them as sex slaves, beheaded victims and other crimes and believe that she didn't participate in any of these crimes.

Yes quite. Now she claims some random bloke tricked her into it. What a loada BS.

Met someone for 3 days
He gave her luggage to take and paid both her flight and excess luggage charge saying he would meet her in a place she hadn't been planning on visiting
The luggage in question weighed 46kg and she never opened it to check what he gave her

I mean she either knew or she is exceptionally stupid especially as she worked for an airline

NoBots · 24/05/2025 18:48

No sympathy. The laws in regarding drugs should be harsher in the UK.

I remember some people waiting in the queue when I was about to board a plane to Thailand asking me to take a package to Thailand. I said no of course.

If she's not pregnant, she won't have much time to settle down and start a family when she's released.

Thank fuck.

I ended up with a 21 year amphetamine habit ..the only person I hurt was myself.you may know amphetamine will destroy a users MH

That was the point 🤣

Speed can destroy lives. I've never seen the same with weed smokers other than them being a bit dull 😄

She also didn't care whether it was drugs or an explosive device. In other words, she doesn't care about harming others or consequences for others. I'm not eager to have her back in wider society any time soon.

Sure, 2nd chances exist. But people serve their time first and make amends.

PoodlesRUs · 24/05/2025 22:39

Oh, there's another one. So that's a smuggler to Georgia, one to Sri Lanka, one to Ghana and some suspiciously vague story about a woman arrested in Dubai whose grandmother rambled incoherently about a job and "wrong place, I think it was maybe drugs".

There seems to be a total lack of personal responsibility and a sense of "I'm so weak, poor me, of course a man made me do it, oh no, come rescue me everybody". Except it's not based on an extensive, coercive and abusive relationship. (And even then drug smuggling would be fucking stupid.)

Significant edit: It was a British woman trying to smuggle drugs from Ghana to the UK and the Ghanian authorities stopped her thankfully. I wonder if the DM's coverage will be any different in tone given the drugs were coming to us.

PoodlesRUs · 24/05/2025 23:03

And another:

"The Ghana drug bust also came on the same day that officers were said to have arrested three people, including a young 19-year-old British citizen, allegedly found to have been carrying 53kg of cannabis across two suitcases on a return flight from Dubai.

The young British citizen, along with two other suspects believed to have been assisting him, was identified and detained at the scene."

Is it vacuous people being stupid, lazy and wanting easy money? Or is it (true) desperation? I don't know if it's an increase in the number of incidents but I don't remember so many being reported on in such a short space of time before.

WiddlinDiddlin · 25/05/2025 20:29

@PoodlesRUs Is it vacuous people being stupid, lazy and wanting easy money? Or is it (true) desperation?

I have known of people doing this (no one I know directly, but friends of friends, cousins of friends of friends etc!)...

Seems to be either utter stupidity, blinded by greed - ie the 'I'll give you £££ if you could just take this to x' or 'fancy a holiday in X... just take this suitcase with you and I'll pay for your hols, spends included!'...and its all 'Oh lovely what a nice man you are, you're so dreamy' and they do it...

(One lass reportedly said 'Oh.. he said it was parcels of presents for his Nan'... I mean, whose Nan needs several kg of smack? No Nan ive ever met and I've lived in North Manchester).

Or cocky arrogance - 'look, I can spend most of the year in Thailand, coming back a few times paid for by bringing x back with me, aren't I a clever bastard eh!'

The really desperate 'I needed to fund my flight home from Outer Mongolia after I broke my spine back packing around the foothills of Tibidabo, was flown to Mongolia for life saving yak-milk baths and then ran out of cash' types...

Are there via their own stupidity in the first place and their desperation a direct result of that!

TalkToTheHand123 · 25/05/2025 20:36

Anyone in favour of legalising drugs? Would this stop these incidents?

Tupperwaremofo · 25/05/2025 20:55

I do feel a bit sorry for her. At 18 we all thought we were invincible (and consequently fucked up, sometimes mildly, sometimes quite badly...admittedly not getting arrested for international drug smuggling badly, but still, some pretty poor choices.) I feel sorry for the fact she knows she's caused her family pain. I also think she will have plenty of time to realise quite how badly she has fucked up and wasted all her youth. She is looking at a LONG time, so yeah, a bit of sympathy. That said, I have more sympathy for people in Gaza and Ukraine right now though.

PoodlesRUs · 25/05/2025 20:59

@WiddlinDiddlin This is besides the point of your post but Tibidabo looks picturesque! I googled it to see if it were a place 😂

@TalkToTheHand123 Westminster is firnly of the opinion that it is a criminal matter and not a health matter. I won't go off on a tangent between the years of arguments between Holyrood and Westminster over that. But I do believe if drugs hadn't been criminalised in the first place we'd be in a much better place today. As it is, I doubt the government would make a good job of decriminalising it. Would products need to be regulated or should it be totally hands-off? Would it be an issue if current criminal networks were suppliers to legal retailers? Would it be the new candle-making where anyone could do it and we trust what we are burning isn't dodgy or would there be standards akin to those of food safety? Something needs to change anyway. We've decades of evidence that the current way does not work.

That said, I do not excuse the mules. I've little time for those who think laws do not apply to them, who aid in the damaging of society and who shirk all personal responsibility. As things stand, they are callous and their behaviour is criminal.

sashh · 26/05/2025 06:49

Redflamingos · 20/05/2025 17:07

Why? You serve your sentence in the country where the crime is committed.

Why should the UK taxpayers pay for her stay in prison in the UK?

There are reciprocal agreements with many countries. I think it is done more for the family than the prisoner.

UK taxpayers pay for consular assistance when someone is imprisoned abroad.

Foreign prisoners in the UK can be released up to 18 months before their statutory release date if they agree to be immediately deported, they are then banned from the UK.

If they do return to the UK then they have to serve the rest of their time.

BeefBoogyOn · 26/05/2025 19:17

I'm always amazed when people say they "can't get worked up over a bit of weed" etc. When criminals are prepared to smuggle drugs, they will traffic all kinds of drugs, life ruining drugs, drugs that means that people steal and kill, drugs that cause overdoses and decimate families. These criminals will also traffic people.

So for every 18yo Bonnie Parker wannabe who enjoy shagging on hotel balconies, there will be ten 18yo terrified girls being kept hostage in dingy, dirty rooms, forced to perform sex acts with men who have paid other men to abuse them and then discarded when they are no longer useful or profitable. Their families never find out what happened to them. It's all linked.

This young woman has been incredibly selfish, stupid and short sighted, and will pay a huge price as a result. I feel sorry for her parents and siblings, who must be out of their mind with fear and worry for her.

Yeah this. ^ When someone tries to minimise cannabis/weed, it tells me all I need to know about them. I steer clear of this kind of person, and give them a wide berth. Anyone who smokes weed, and thinks it's OK/harmless etc, is not my kind of person. As the poster above says, it's a desperate attempt to try to look cool.

Someone said (the other week) on a Facebook page I go on that they were sick of people smoking weed near her flat window (in town,) and it stinks horrible and people shouldn't be using it as it's illegal. She got her arse handed to her on a plate, with some of the nastiest things I have seen written on there. She was mocked by around 30 people. Saying she's uptight and boring and dull, and she has a stick up her arse, weed isn't illegal, she hasn't lived, she should try some weed, she just needs a good fuck etc. Vile. 😖

And they were all the same kind of people too. Unsavoury, dodgy, drug-taking types who think nothing of playing loud music at all hours, and chucking rubbish out of the car window (or dumping it in laybys...) All backing each other up/egging each other on, and mocking her.

Poor woman - I felt so sorry for her. She was in her early 60s, and she lived alone in a flat, and she was so upset. The thread was deleted, but not for about 7 hours.

Also, cannabis/weed IS illegal and it's a myth that it's OK to possess it/use it (for recreational purposes - as most users do!) But yeah, I have to say, the worst people I know use weed. And I don't mean the (few) people who have it for medicinal purposes before anybody says anything! I'm clearly not talking about them!

I know of 4 people who smoke weed regularly, (not for medicinal purposes!) and they are always coughing, (and they sound about 90 when they do cough,) they can't walk far, they're always tired, they're always catching bugs and viruses, and they have respiratory problems. And they're only in their late 20s and early 30s. Worrying thing is, a couple of them have young children. (2, and 3 years old,) and they were smoking weed when they were pregnant with the child(ren.) How anyone can justify smoking weed, with comments like 'yeah but what about alcohol?!' and shit like that just astounds me. Stop the whatabouttery and stop minimising it.

As for these girls. (The drug mules!) Throw the book at them. They know what they're doing. They just want to make money fast by doing very little. No sympathy from me. Drug dealers, and people who carry drugs for them all need locking up for 30 years!

It's only big money because the government have made it illegal. It wouldn't be happening otherwise. If it was legal, people could get the support easier and people would commit less crime due to lower prices.

Which is irrelevant, because it’s not legal, and the people doing it know it’s not legal.
