Safety razor, anyone a pro?

Just bought a safety razor (a King C Gillette one that was on offer in Boots) as I’ve read a lot about them recently. Smoother shave less irritation etc.

Handled it like a bloody grenade as I knew it was much easier to cut yourself. Just been and had a bath and given it a go and it’s absolute pants! Felt like I’d have more chance cutting myself with a butter knife. Tried multiple angles and different lathers on my leg and they’re somewhat shaved apart from a few stragglers on my shin. My pits and bits though remain completely wild.

It felt like it gave a slightly better shave when I loosened the handle so the blade had more wiggle if you know what I mean but then it kept unscrewing more and was unusable.

Did all the pre shave rituals like soaked in hot water and exfoliated.

Have I just bought a dud razor altogether? Should I try another blade out of the pack that came with it? Can you get a dud blade?

Any tips, tricks suggestions all very much appreciated before I go out and buy another sodding Venus that will give me a shaving rash after the first day 😬.

No idea what a safety razor is but I use a Mach 3 and they’re brilliant . Also use a sharpening stone to make the em last longer. Agree Venus or any ‘ womens’ ( pink) razors are shite .

Ahh I didn’t think you could resharpen cartridge blades. That’s something I’ll look into thank you.

A safety razor is a single blade old fashioned razor. They’re having a bit of a resurgence lately as they’re cheaper and no plastic.

I don’t have much experience with Gillett but I recently bought a razor by Buldog. I found mine in boots too it’s the one with a bamboo handle. It’s marketed towards men but I’ve had no issues at all with it and it’s great for shaving legs and leaves a nice smooth finish without having straglers. Not sure how it is on bits and pits because I’m lazy and don’t shave them very often tbh. But I’m sure it would work fine for them 😃

I use one when I shave (my face), you might find the issue is with the angle the blade is to your skin. Have never had any issues with sharpness, quite the opposite.
