Anything I can do? Letters arriving that arent for us

We keep receiving letters from a bank, inc bank statements for someone who doesn’t live here.
Weve sent letters back every time time with ‘not at this address’ on the enveloppe. We’ve rung the bank.

Now we’ve moved into our house 10 years ago (!!) and this person isn’t the seller but more likely one of the tenants before that (house was rented before, the person we bought from basically did it up but never lived in it). And we’ve received letters since we moved in

Dh is now just putting letters in the bin. Not sure what else we could do really….

Yes we do the same. Been here 15 years.

I'm being more concerned if a different name suddenly started and it looked fraudulent.

Danioyellow · 17/05/2025 12:39

I’d just carry on binning them. You’ve already done everything you can to notify them

Reprographical · 17/05/2025 12:40

Just keep returning to sender. I used to work for a couple of banks and we took note of all the returned mail, scanned in the envelope etc. I wouldn't just bin them tbh, although I suppose if it's difficult to get to a postbox I don't blame you

Love51 · 17/05/2025 12:41

I put 'Postie, please RTS' and then 'Sender, please update your records'.
Oddly it helped and I no longer get that guts post.

That’s more than 10 years though. Surely they should have done it by now??

Edited

They really should have, you're right 🤷‍♀️

Contact the bank again and say if they don't sort it out, you'll report them to the ICO for misuse of personal data (your address). You should find they sort it out sharpish.

ParmaVioletTea · 17/05/2025 13:00

Try putting

"NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS. PLEASE AMEND YOUR RECORDS"

in really big letters and sending back.

But the bank is probably just shredding them when you return them.

Coffeeishot · 17/05/2025 13:02

After about 5/6 years we just bin letters now they have dwindled but I.think if someone can't be bothered to change their address then the letters are not important.

BeNiceWhenItsFinished · 17/05/2025 13:08

If you know the name of the bank and there is a branch near you, try taking a letter in there, and tell them you've been returning them for 10 years, and please would they do something about it because you've had enough now.

That’s a good point!!

Theres hardly any banks left around us 😢😢
Nearest branches are now 30+ mins drive….

Dh wont go especially for that and I’m close to housebound.
im not sure it’s worth the effort really. We’d probably get a ‘yay but not your account so we can’t change anything’ speech.

Maybe get the address of Head Office and look on Companies House for the name of the Chief Executive and send it to them with a covering letter.
