My 5 year old ate a whole pizza

It’s been a busy and stressful week. Decided to have a lazy night and chucked some frozen pizza (Buitoni) in the oven and put on a movie.

I cooked 2 pizzas and left them in the kitchen. DC had small plates, and we paused the movie if they wanted to fetch more pizza. I didn’t keep a check on how much they were having, they generally stop when they’re full.

My plan was to eat the leftovers for my dinner. However, there was one slice and 8 bits of crust. DD (5.5) doesn’t eat the crust, so I know she ate a whole pizza. DS (8.5) ate 7 full slices.

I’m a bit surprised that they ate so much. Is this normal?

We were in Italy when my DS was 3. They didn’t have kids menus or small pizzas but as the pizza was €3 I thought we’d order him one anyway. He ate 3/4 of it and has loved pizza ever since. He’s now 6 foot tall, quite sporty and slim!

Pizza is good

Thr posher the pizza the fewer the calories. A pizza express margarita is only just over 500 calories if you leave the crusts (weigh them - carbs are 4 calories a gram) . That's not a huge amount for an active child.

I was mainly shocked she could fit it all in!

As a family we generally eat very well- veg with every meal, fruit as a snack etc. We get a takeaway every 2-3 months. This was definitely a one off and not a pattern.

Probably enjoying the opportunity to eat something they wouldn’t usually have then.

My 4yr old can eat more than me! I wouldn’t worry about it. I find some days they eat the bare minimum, and others they eat everything. They’re a normal weight, active, eat a wide range of food. I’ve never really given it much thought

@Atarin Also got a 4yo and this is absolutely true for mine as well. Some days he eats half of what’s on his plate and says hes had enough and other days he’s asking for 4 helpings of spaghetti bolognaise 😅🙈
He’s very active, normal weight, eats pretty much any foods I put infront of him 🤷🏻‍♀️

As long as it’s his actual meals/relatively healthy snacks then i don’t really give it much thought and just go with it 🤷🏻‍♀️ Obviously if he wanted 4 bars of chocolate in a row rather than 4 helpings of dinner I’d intervene there 😅
