Things to do in Stoke

My hobby group is looking to meet up in Stoke and we’re looking for inspiration for things to do. It’s 6-10 women in our 20s-30s, and we’ve already done the Emma Bridgwater pottery painting and loved it. Open to all ideas!

Trentham Gardens?

SummaLuvin · 16/05/2025 20:14

Wedgewood also do pottery painting as well as pottery wheel sessions. If you’re drinkers a bottomless brunch can be fun and better for nattering - when I did pottery painting my friends and I barely said a word to each other as we were laser focused on our masterpieces!

I'm once had to kill 5 hours in Stoke. I ended up in the cinema.

edited for typos

Leave?

Cedrabbage · 16/05/2025 20:25

Waterworld? Night out in Newcastle (the one near Stoke), consider your mortality?

Maddy70 · 16/05/2025 22:40

Look for the nearest train station to go anywhere ;)
Seriously trentham gardens is lovely,

IamSmarticus · 16/05/2025 22:44

Get on the train to Manchester!

Seriously though, I live in Stoke and would probably echo the previous posters who suggested Trentham. Shops, walks, food etc - https://trentham.co.uk/

Home - Trentham Estate

Buy some oatcakes and eat them.

IamSmarticus · 16/05/2025 22:47

...and just for avoidance of doubt for those who are not local, that's Trent-um rather than Trenth-am

soupyspoon · 16/05/2025 22:47

The potteries museum, cycle trails nearby, flat and safe and off road, Trentham gardens and Monkey World, lots of other museums too but cant remember the names of them. I liked Stoke, we went nearby there on holiday and a man in a shop laughed at us when we said we were on holiday there!

Gettoachiro · 16/05/2025 22:49

Trentham Gardens, lots of shops there plus of course the gardens. Wedgewood, Waterworld, Break free escape rooms, the Gladstone Pottery museum, lots of theatres. A little bit further out there is the Peak Wildlife Park, or various historical buildings like Ford Green Hall and little Moreton Hall.

Gettoachiro · 16/05/2025 22:50

The monkey forest too as has just been mentioned.

Belmondo · 16/05/2025 22:51

There's an escape room in Hanley, that's good fun.

PMAG (Potteries Museum and Art Gallery) has lots of interesting stuff, and there's an excellent place called The Slamwich Club just up the road.

The New Vic Théâtre has lots.of great stuff, and the Sugarmill has some good bands on.

You could probably hire a canal boat for the day from the marina at Festival Park.

Dry slope ski-ing? Wagamama is walkable from there, for lunch.

Middleport Pottery is definitely worth a visit.

Clay College (I think it's based at Spode, in Stoke town centre) might do a group class.

See the Staffordshire Hoard at the Potteries Museum. The cafe there isn't all that, so go elsewhere for lunch.

Oh this was the one I couldnt remember the name of. I quite liked the cake in the cafe.

The Gladstone museum is the one I thought was called 'The Potteries'

But its not. It has beautiful tiles and toilets in part of the museum.

Half day spa visit to Moddershall Oaks?

ForPearlNewt · 17/05/2025 07:41

Go and look at Lemmy's new statue in Burslem.
