Why am I starting to get old lady legs! Kinda gone a bit cracked, what should I be putting on them ?

Is shaving them not the best ? Should I be using hair removing cream
I don’t really shave them over the winter only when I get my legs out

what should I start using to moisturise them ? Currently use nothing on them

My grandad washed in buttermilk as he didn’t have running water and the doctor commented on his baby skin
Of course I don’t think Aldi sell buttermilk by the barrel 🤣🤣 so I’d give palmers cocoa butter a go.
Ive always used it on my body and at 58 don’t have that ‘cracking’ look.

Aveeno is great for dry skin but any body lotion will do, after showering.

Exfoliate once a week with a body scrub or exfoliating glove/brush.

I've been doing this routine for a month now and the difference is noticeable.

Drink 2-3 litres of water a day.

Fragrance free means they haven't added any fragrance to it, not that it doesn't have a fragrance!😋

It was a joke 🙄

Dry brushing helps
Nivea Q10 body lotion (dry skin version) has been amazing, much better than eg Clarins!

I’ve started back up moisturising after a shower and there is a marked difference in my skin. I let it slide after having DS and am now making an effort to look after myself as well as I did before.
If you don’t want to use chemicals on your skin, then coconut oil is good and doesn’t leave you smelling of coconuts. I used it throughout pregnancy and I had no stretch marks at all.

Aveeno shower gel, Aveeno shampoo and Aveeno body moisturiser for very dry skin are working for me. Having just spent a week in Durham, which has soft water and where my skin was in the best possible condition, a replacement shower head to filter our hard water has been fitted though it has lowered the pressure.

My favourite thing is to put porridge oats in water and make an Oat bath - it's sooo moisturising.

To stop you getting “old lady legs”. Which this old lady doesn’t have.

I don't either but I rarely moisturise. I think it's down to skin type. I have to layer up the moisture on my face but the rest of me generally takes care of itself. No lizard legs here (and I'm well post meno).

GingerLiberalFeminist · 17/05/2025 19:40

Shave with baby oil instead of shaving gel and moisturise every day.

Apologises 🤣

Maybe I’m just a bit cracked 🙃

I buy the flexitol foot and leg cream. Not as much urea as the heel balm but it soaks in nicely on damp skin.

DDivaStar · 17/05/2025 21:21

I use aqueous cream a couple of times a week, poor man's e45......

Although it has doubled in price in the last 2 years !

Cookieismyname · 18/05/2025 17:45

Agree with pp re body brushing and moisturising. I also use epsom salts once a week in the bath and drink a fair bit of water daily.

Good luck op

AllrightNowBaby · 18/05/2025 17:56

Thank God for this post, I thought it was only me with the lizard legs 😂
the best thing I’ve found for lower leg lizardness is Eucerin but I use the Garnier on my body.

Tbh i don't even moisturise my face, let alone my whole body

Then you can look forward to an old lady face to match your old lady legs! 😆

(From an 'old lady' of 58 who has always moisturised her face and body, and is regularly mistaken for a 40 year old.)

porridgecake · 18/05/2025 18:41

I shave my legs using cheap body lotion and just leave it on. It is really important to keep legs and feet moisturised and skin intact. I know several older ladies who have been hospitalised with cellulitis just through cracked skin.
