Video assessment or phone- PIP

PIP have offered a video assessment for my PIP review but I have asked to change to a phone call- wondering if should have left it

Would a video assessment be better perhaps? Any thoughts welcome. My gut reaction is it would be more stressful but on the other hand maybe it would be better in that they can see you more.

@Orangesandlemons77 I have my phone assessment tomorrow morning at 9am. I'm actually dreading it. I have the addition of severe copd since the last review, but who knows how they'll work it. Luckily I have an appointment with my cbt counsellor the day after. Think I'll need it. Lol. I'm really frightened of getting less points tbh, just hoping I get a really lovely, honest health professional who recommends a much longer award. Hope you win at the mr, if you decide to do one. xo

I hope it goes well. Thanks for the message- I am currently veering towards just leaving with it and dealing with it all at the next review, so as not to 'rock the boat' but still unsure.

I would refuse the video as I'm extremely anxious about that. I'd not be comfortable seeing myself on the camera.
I guess if you have physical disabilities that are visual then they'd see that to an extent, but otherwise I can't see the advantage to you.

Make sure you do it in a way where you'll feel most able to voice your illnesses and difficulties without too much distress.
Good luck x

I've had the video appt already and honestly it was not too bad and they got to see things like your facial expression, they said things like I seemed withdrawn and tired- but be helpful for a mental health claim for example.

That is appalling to hear that they use the overturned report and ignore the appeal one, which is what your payments are based on! Sounds illegal as the appeal award replaces the earlier one!
Just all a trick to pay less....... sounds like they are forcing you into appeal territory.....

The last one didn't even get tot he appeal stage, the DWP changed it before then!

It all gets so confusing. Today I've just had enough of it and think I will leave it for the 18 months. I am awaiting a (very long- 20 weeks wait at least) appt with chronic fatigue clinic and by then I should have that information.

Also the thing they have taken off me is the bit about planning and following an unfamiliar journey, saying I occasionally catch a bus. I thought a bus in a familiar area was OK but it seems not.

I don't want to get paranoid about things like being able to catch a bus or walking in the park so I might just leave the mobility part for now and see how I am then, and try and cut costs other ways.

I'm on the waiting list for a food pantry so that might help a little bit.

At least I got the enhanced care I suppose- just. without having to appeal. Well if the DM goes with the report that is.

With an 18 month award, they don't review you you just have to reapply, so I guess will have to do that after about 12-14 months as it all takes forever.

The planning journey but is ridiculous - that is one of the parts I'm fighting to get......they just don't listen properly with what you are saying.....

Orangesandlemons77 · 01/06/2025 15:06

They have tried to catch me out so many times over that bit (planning and following journeys) to the extent of ranging me up before a home visit to 'ask directions because they were lost'

Why would I ask them to record it please? can't I trust them to write it down accurately?

They record all calls and videos anyway whether you want them to or not
