Overnight accidents

DD potty trained herself a month ago, had only a handful of accidents since. She’s also been dry overnight, again maybe three accidents. Is this standard or should I be waking her in the night for a wee? It’s happened once in the wee hours (lol) and once when it was time to get up, it’s like she forgot she needed to get out of bed.

she’s 2.5years. Since it’s been a month of no nappies I’m reluctant to put her in nappy pants at night. Will this just get better on its own?

Put a pad under her sheet instead?

I remember going through a phase of taking DD to the loo at around 10pm. She would barely wake up, and would go straight back to sleep afterwards. I'm sure someone will tell me it was the wrong thing to do, but worked for her.

I did the same. Worked well. They don’t always wake when they get the urge to wee at this age so a twilight wee when they are half asleep helps reduce accidents in the night. Much better than going back to pull ups which could result in regression.

Thank you, yes I May try to keep better track of what she’s had to eat and drink before bed and then do a twilight wee. It’s only been 2-3 nights where she’s had an accident, of the past month so I reckon she’s doing alright. I do have a waterproof pad under her sheet so the mattress is alright. But she wakes up cold and wet!

DS was mostly dry at night at the same age. I could usually predict when he’d have accident usually when I’d kept him up late and/or he’d had more to drink than usual e.g. we went to dinner and he chugged 2 apples juices, fell asleep in the pram and was transferred to bed. On those nights I learned to lift him! By 3 it wasn’t an issue any more. So YY to tracking and I don’t think lifting causes any long term problems. Personally I’d much rather deal with an accident every 2 weeks ish than go back to pull ups. Good tip I saw on here was double up your sheets so waterproof protector, fitted sheet and then the same again on top so you just need to whip the wet stuff off and no need to remake the bed.

@JellyAnd thank you, yes, I’ve done the double sheets, it’s a lifesaver at 1 am 🫠 I’m not at all keen on going back to pull ups so reckon we’ll give twilight weed a go.

This is what we do too

Just be careful, “lifting” them to the toilet when not fully wake can actually train them to wee in their sleep.

it is better to allow them to develop the biofeedback mechanism where a full bladder will wake them naturally so they learn to get up for the toilet.
