Help me find a hobby!

I am hoping that someone here might be able to inspire me and help me find a new hobby.

I am a SAHM in my thirties. I moved to the opposite end of the country (to NE England) a few months ago and I would like to find a club or something to join that's fun for me (rather than my toddler) and where I might make some new friends.

I'm my old area I went to a casual women's Ju Jitsu class which I loved but the clubs in my new area seem a bit serious and competitive which just isn't my vibe.

I also took a beginner's archery course. I had fun and I was pretty good for a total beginner but I'm nervous that the local club won't be as outgoing and welcoming as the previous one and I won't know until I've forked out for membership and insurance etc.

I'm open to most suggestions but a group/club that forces some sort of commitment and interaction is preferable simply to make sure I actually go and spend time outside the house! I'd also be more interested in something that teaches me a new skill so I have something to "show" for my time.

Any suggestions?

How about a new language? You can attend classes and add on a language exchange. Good for the brain too.

Can you ask the local archery club if you can attend a couple of sessions on a pay-as-you-go basis before forking out fees, to see if it's suitable for you? Ditto other sports clubs in the area.

Why not get in touch with the new archery club and see if they've got any "have a go" days coming up? Have you got your Archery GB Licence to shoot or whatever it's called? Your introductory safety certificate. New club should accept that if you choose to join.

Are you near the coast? Sea swimming?

Choir? Knit and natter? Book club? Running club? Tennis club?

The archery club has a pretty rubbish/out of date website and not a very active social media presence. I should probably try to get in touch but it doesn't inspire confidence.

I'm not a talented singer but I can carry a tune passably and what I lack in talent I make up for in enthusiasm so a choir could be worth exploring.

I crochet so have thought about a knit and natter or sewing club but I fear that either I will end up on my own in a corner somewhere or that I will be all natter and no knitting. I'm not sure I can do both 😂

Running club and or parkrun. They are often super friendly and few people attend in pairs, so are great for getting to know people. Don't worry if you ars not (yet) a runner - at parkrun you can walk, volunteer, jog, whatever suits.

Funnily enough, I am hoping to take up some language classes in September (childcare dependent). It's with through my husband's college and part of his course though so whilst it will be enjoyable and something outside of home, it won't be "just for me".

If I enjoy it and it doesn't feel too much like being back at school, I could look into another class elsewhere!

Open water swimming with a local Bluetits group.
