Can you freeze bolognese that has been reheated twice?

It's another silly meat question from this vegetarian.. :-)

I made bolognese sauce (using frozen and defrosted beef mince) on Monday. Kept it in the fridge and used it today (I.e. 2 days later) to make shepherd's pie (well, some version of it. ). There is a lot of shepherd's pie left so I'm wondering if I can freeze the leftovers.

I read online that apparently freezing mince that has been reheated several times is no problem as long as it was heated through thoroughly.

I didn't measure the temperature but the mince was in the oven at 220C for about 25 minutes so would that be enough? The pie was steaming when it came out.

Also, I didnt use all the bolognese sauce in the shepherd's pie. I left about half of it in the fridge. Can I freeze that (separately to the pie). So basically that consists of frozen and defrosted mince that was cooked and rhen kept in the fridge for 2 days Can it go directly in the freezer without reheating?

I would as you've cooked it and yes definitely freeze the sauce.

Yes I would freeze both

Yes, I would freeze both of those. Your title implies it has been reheated (ie warmed up after first cooking) several times, but that’s not what you describe.

Basic rule is that once you have cooked it (regardless of whether the raw meat was frozen or not), you either eat it or freeze it (via the fridge is fine). If you then warm it up for another meal, then don’t freeze after that.

Thanks all for the replies. I've frozen both the pie and the sauce. The beef mince was basically cooked twice. Once when I made the original bolognese sauce and then when I used the sauce to make shepherd's pie.

Do you mean the term reheating implies just warming it lightly (I.e. to less than 75C) but it's ok if it is cooked properly (I.e. to.more than 75C)?

Cooking meat is so stressful. I never worry about poisoning the family with vegetables and I'm sure we have inadvertently eaten tons of them that were in questionable condition...

Sorry I was unclear on the “warming it up”. When I warm things up for a second meal
I make them totally hot again. Reheating meat from cold to just warm rather than hot is asking for trouble!

I think “technically” you e cooked the meat twice with the bolognaise stage and then the pie stage, but I would still freeze it and eat another day. When you reheat it, defrost it first, then heat it to lava-hot! Any bugs will be killed by the lava-hot heat!
