Which part of London to stay in to visit Westfield?

VanillaEverytime · 14/05/2025 18:11

We want to visit Westfield London(Definitely not Stratford.) and plan to visit some Museums and other sites while there but would like to be close to Westfield. Is Shepherd’s Bush safe enough or should we look elsewhere for accommodation?

TIA

I’d probably stay in central London, anywhere within walking distance to a central line tube station.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/05/2025 18:17

I agree. If it's within budget, stay centrally and get the Central Line to Westfield in Shepherd's Bush. You want to be close to the majority of places you want to visit and you'll have a much better choice of places to eat the more central you are.

Mayim · 14/05/2025 18:21

Shepherds Bush is absolutely fine if you want to be near Westfield. There is also Holland Park and Hammersmith both of which are very near, as well as Chiswick. The latter is a great area and has a direct bus to Westfield and the district line that links to all the museums in Kensington.

HowManyDucks · 14/05/2025 18:24

So you don't want to visit the Stratford Westfield? Because there are some lovely places to stay nearby and it's very well connected due to being on the doorstep to the olympic village. 🤷

No because I’ve heard far too much about it being overrun with teens and it not feeling so safe as Shepherd’s Bush. Plus the latter just being nicer generally. I’m happy to visit the area if it has nice places to visit, as you mentioned but I definitely want to avoid that Westfield.

Shepards Bush is perfectly safe but not very attractive. I’d stay in South Kensington if you want to see museums as many are walkable from there and just take the tube to Westfield.

PersephoneSmith · 14/05/2025 18:37

You know people live in Shepherds Bush right? It’s not the Gaza Strip.

Ridingthespringwave · 14/05/2025 18:39

There’s a nice Ibis Budget more or less inside Westfield that we’ve stayed in. Easy to get the tube or bus to more central London and there are plenty of child friendly places to eat at Westfield itself.

I know. I live in a major UK city too, even if obviously not as big as London but there are still areas of it that I’d advise people not to stay even if anything is unlikely to happen, some areas just make you feel on edge and aren’t so safe as others. I’m disabled and I’ve no idea what Shepherd's Bush is like hence why I asked as it’d be preferable to be relatively close to Westfield as I am disabled, ambulatory but I can have a lot of trouble with walking and with stairs. I’m not worried about being assaulted so much as theft.

I live near Westfield London (in North Kensington) and work at Stratford and in general I think I would stay at Stratford. Shepherds Bush is awful especially around Shepherds Bush Green and Uxbridge Road.

I don’t think there’s a lift at Shepherds Bush Central and there is at Stratford station, so you may be better off there.

twilightcafe · 14/05/2025 19:00

Stick with the Shepherd's Bush Westfield. It's much calmer than the Stratford one.
There is a bus that goes to South Kensington for the museums.

MissMoneyFairy · 14/05/2025 19:01

We stayed at the Hilton , 5 mins walk to Westfiled, bus stops right outside, on the opposite side of the road loads of buses into central London, Hyde park, easy to get to the museums and Westfield shopping centre has the tube and buses going everywhere.

RobinEllacotStrike · 14/05/2025 19:01

There are a couple of Premier Inns and a Novotel in Hammersmith - a short bus ride away from Westfield.

Or stay in SheBu itself - Dorset hotel, The Hoxton etc.

If you stay in Hammermith the tubes are direct to South Kensington for museums etc, or you can get a shortish bus journey too. Hammersmith is excellent for bus services.

You could also stay in Notting Hill or Kensington High Street.

MissMoneyFairy · 14/05/2025 19:01

It's the hilton kensington

Givemethesun · 14/05/2025 19:34

I completely agree that the Shepherd’s Bush Westfield is calmer so if you’re not a Londoner it makes sense. Partly because of its layout it’s smoother to get around the mall.

However, perhaps not intentionally, but I think the way you worded your brackets in your OP will rile people who are lucky enough to live near by and be able to regularily use and enjoy Westfield Stratford as it sounds a bit snobby (as above perhaps not your intention). The news makes it sound horrific, it’s actually not.

hope you enjoy your trip x

agree - I've lived by & shopped in both.
Much of a muchness.
Stratford Westfield has WingStop though so I'd be tempted to go there - not sure SheBu has one?

Not snobbery. I’ll happily eat or shop anywhere from Primark to Fortnum and Mason but I added that so that people knew that I’d already ruled out Stratford. I envy people who do have it on their doorstep because I’m sure that it’s a great place to shop much of the time. But it seems that it(understandably) attracts a lot of teens and I’m a middle aged woman who likes a quiet life. I don’t want to be surrounded by groups of teens. I avoid a local shopping centre most of the time for that exact reason and because it sometimes results in antisocial behaviour from said teens. Plus I’ve read that it’s darker, less spacious and crowded so being autistic, Westfield London is the better option for me.

I've stayed in the Dorset in Shepherd's Bush and it was very nice. It was a few years ago and we had a special offer.

The only downside was that the bathroom had glass doors, which was a bit odd, unless that has been changed now.

VanillaEverytime · 14/05/2025 20:57

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions and advice. I’m very grateful for the responses.

Surely if the OP wants to do museums as well as Westfield it makes sense for her to base herself west rather than east? Why schlep across to South Ken from Stratford if you don’t have too?!

That makes complete sense and I don’t disagree with your points. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Rollofrockandsand · 14/05/2025 22:41

I much prefer Stratford. The Shepherd’s Bush one is far busier, you can barely move in parts. Stratford is calmer but to be honest they’re much of a muchness

It’s really not, they’re incredibly similar to each other

Cynic17 · 14/05/2025 22:47

Everywhere in central London is safe, including by the Olympic Park in Stratford (I've stayed there several times). Plus you can get across the city easily on the Tube, so there are numerous places you could stay, OP.
