Garden design with pics

I have been playing about with a design app. In this case I was doing it for my garden and it showed me theses:

I would love to do the bright ones . I won't because it would not keep well. And probably a bit tacky for the garden. I can get away with it inside but not outside 😅

Ah… you again, Youagain2025 😂

I prefer a calming look in the garden but why not have bright colours in the garden, if that’s what you like? Maybe use the same colour palette as your sitting room so it isn’t too much! 😂

Maybe start with brightly coloured flowers and furniture before you start painting the patio slabs 😂 I would probably stick to one colour if I were painting the fence but you are definitely not me 😂 Be aware that the paint will probably go through the gaps in the slats on a wooden fence so it might make your neighbours’ side of the fence look a mess.

🤣 i was just looking really . I probably won't do much to the garden. If I done bright stuff it would just be things like colourful rug, plants and plant pots etc. Nothing painted.

I am wondering about raised beds. Nlt sure if that woukd maje the garden look /feel smaller. It's not very big as it is.

You could do the last one and just have brightly coloured plants and flowers.

I think it depends on if you are a gardener.
The majority of colour in my garden comes from the plants. My pergola, pots, shed and most of the pots are black.

BeNiceWhenItsFinished · 13/05/2025 14:19

It's a garden, not where they are filming the next series of the Teletubbies.

Here's a photo, so you get an idea.
It may take a while for image to load - don't blame me,

What's the design app please?!
Ps, I'd go with the large wooden planters, sofa & fountain, but would add a touch of colour via flowers & cushions!

Its to small for teletubbies. I would not be able to fit a house inside a hill.

Chatgpt I thought it was just an app for gardens and homes . But dd said it helps with home work to. So must be a mix of things.

Looks like I wasted all that time doing that City & Guilds garden design course at agricultural college then.

Or maybe not... 😂

There is no need to be rude 🙄 This is Chat not AIBU. You would hate OP’s house, it’s been a long road for her making it into a home but she’s done an amazing job. Bold and bright is her signature style.

I wouldn’t bother with raised beds in a small garden if you aren’t a gardener. It’s an unnecessary expense and work. Come over to the gardening board, they are a lovely supportive bunch who will help you create what you want without judgey comments. They can advise you on what to best to plant depending on sun/conditions in your garden, things that are cheap, easy to grow, low maintenance, dog and child proof.

Knowing your taste, my suggestions would be big, tropical looking, jungle like plants eg Fatsia Japonica, bamboo in pots, bananas, Torbay palms (Cordyline) or something a bit eccentric like bedding plants planted in the order of the colours of the rainbow or stripes with climbers in the fences to save space. Pick easy to grow things like geraniums, nasturtiums, sunflowers to get you started.

If you are in London, you can pick up plants cheaply at Colombia Road flower market, especially at the end of the day when they sell things off cheaply to get rid of them. Aldi and Lidl also have cheap plants.

Nutmuncher · 13/05/2025 15:17

Respectfully, they all look very generic even the colourful ones. Gardens should be organic and take time to establish. Even worse would be an astroturf carpet (please tell me you’re having a lawn)

Thank you . I have fake grass i will be ripped apart on the gardening boards 😅 I was really just looking.. because i was playing with the app . Probably won't do the garden till next year to be honest. It's not a mess or anything. It will be ok for now.

OP posts:
KnickerFolder · 13/05/2025 16:12

Fake grass! 😳 😂

Yep, the gardeners will be somewhat horrified but they are kinder bunch than some of the posters here 😂

TBH it will mess with drainage, it’s awful for the environment and wildlife and it will have wrecked the soil underneath. It’s a nightmare to remove. But I bet the soil is in awful state and full of rubble anyway if it’s a new build. They are quite pragmatic… Flower beds and artificial grass are better than just artificial grass or concrete.

Just tell them you can’t remove it because your landlord installed it 😂

Why don’t you try planting some sunflower seeds and nasturtiums around the edge? Try your hand at gardening to see if you like it as a trial run for next year?

Mischance · 13/05/2025 16:17

I prefer the one on the left because in the main plants blend in better with more natural colours. They then produce their own splashes of colour in the form of flowers which do not need to be in competition with garish fencing.

CrazyBaubles · 13/05/2025 16:41

Some posters are very rude!

OP there’s no ‘right’ way to do a garden! Until we moved to this house 5 years ago we’d never had a garden.
2 years in and I decided the tasteful wooden shed, potting bench and wooden furniture were too bland for my taste and I’ve painted them a mix of blue, purple and yellow.
Ive been learning to garden so I have colour from every green plants and various flowers but the paint is bright and cheerful all year around.

Also, I agree with PP about trying the gardening board. I’ve posted the most ridiculous of silly questions and someone always provides a really helpful answer.

I done it over 2yrs ago. I done lots of research and the drainage vis fantastic. I know its not the best choice for environment etc. But I done what works for me. And its all been part of my making things more manageable for me . Feels more positive for me . Its less stress etc. I do have plants and stuff though.

I'm 100% not a Gardner. I can probably add more plants but easy to look after ones.

To be honest I will probably do dds bedroom next. She's the only one who's not had their room done

Easy to look after, everything where it is most convenient, making sure there is a lovely view of the garden from the house all year round, no difficult plants that need cossetting, and no daft twiddly corners. How's that?

NamechangeJunebaby · 13/05/2025 21:55

It’s your garden and if the bright colours make you happy then I’d say do it!

my garden is pretty colourful, but in a bit more muted shades. And the paving is natural stone. And so long as you tell the neighbours you’d like to fence their side of the fence it should be fine. I let mine know and asked permission and they said go for it. I was very careful - it took me weeks as was painting around work. I dripped through in two places and have offered to help touch up their panels to cover it.

I did spend time looking at pet friendly hardy plants as my dog appear to enjoy eating anything with yellow flowers.

The Range and B and M have some decent cheap flowers and plants in - and Aldi if you can get them before they run out

I’d say don’t pressure yourself, it’s a work in progress, and just enjoy yourself. It’s so relaxing doing a bit of painting or planting with a nice cuppa (or a wine).

Definitely although I don't know what cossetting means. I'm guessing careful looking after ? But anyway yes what you said

I'm not going to paint fencing or paths etc. I love btight and bold . But I don't think it will work in my garden really I may add bright things like chair cushions, rugs , plant pots and bits.

I'm not doing it at the moment don't even knlw why I posted. Was just messing about with the app really.
