So five years after being on a kibbutz in Israel I was a passenger in a car with a friend in Hendon. The car came to a sudden stop at a zebra crossing. A startled girl flicked a V sign before we both realised we knew each other from the kibbutz!!

That SAME day on my way home to Harlow I got in the train and quite literally sat down next to a lad that had been on the same Kibbutz!!! He and the girl were not connected in any way - It felt barmy at the time and I imagine the odds were millions to one!!!

DH sister married a man she met in France and at her wedding it turned out he and ones DH’s old university friends had been Penpals while at secondary school- I mean what are the chances??

Anyone else had any bizarre coincidences like this - or more so ??

We went on holiday when DD was 2. She played loads with this girl in the pool, who was a bit older than her. We didn't really speak to the parents, other than pleasantries. Over a year later, DD starts school nursery and this girl is in her class. They are still friends now at 10.

When working in Southeast Asia I had a colleague whose husband was from my village in rural northwest England!

We sold our car. We then moved house, about 90 mins away. I then saw someone driving our old car near our new house.

I was in an ice cream shop and noticed the two women in front of me were wearing a certain brand of leggings (Lululemon)

About three weeks later, in a different town, the same two women were in front of me in a shoe shop, wearing the same damn leggings

Hilaré lol x

Meeting my in-laws for the first time
Walked into a pub on the other side of the country to be handed my regular pint of Guinness with a smile and a “high stirabout how are you”. 🤣. My local barman had moved. My FIL was very impressed but I think MIL thought I must be an alcoholic 🤣🤣

Haha well hopefully you proved her wrong lol - !!

This guy nearly burnt down part of our Uni. Long story. The fault fell on my best friend at the time and she hated him with a passion ever since.

I met the same guy in a completely different city at a party through a completely unconnected friend. So weird coincidence
We married two years later.

She didn’t smile much in the photos, even though she was my witness 🤣

Wowsers!!
Donthey talk now lol??

As a teenager, I was a Brownie/Guide leader. My name was a bird.

This bird was my now DHs surname... so now my actual name.

Is your surname Brown Owl?

Lardychops · 14/05/2025 08:40

Stirabout · 14/05/2025 01:41

Finally.

My kids are named after the last three Popes. We got there first though 😃

Hahaha!
I love this!
May peace be with them all! X

Not an owl... it was just a random bird.

I’ve mentioned this a few times before

40 years ago, aged 13, I had a book called ‘Come Back Lucy’ by Pamela Sykes. Really loved the book but of course, who knows where it went to over the years?

anyway a few years back, in a fit of nostalgia, I went on Amazon to try and find it. It was out of print at the time but I found one on their marketplace for a few quid. Seller up in Scotland - I’m in the south east of England

ordered it and it arrived a few days later. Opened it up to see my name and address, written on the title page, in my own handwriting - just as I would do to all the books I owned

yep - I’d bought my own book back, many decades later

I love this. So happy you were reunited with your book!

We live at different ends of the country although she is godmother to one of our sons
Since the wedding dh and her have met once.
but tbh she hasn’t exactly kept in contact with anyone

She never met any of our children and they’re in their 20s, didn’t go to our best friends wedding etc So I don’t think it’s personal.

I do visit her for a night or two every year but tbh I can’t keep up with the drink and partying. She’s never had kids and never slowed down from our Uni years.

Lost touch with a friend about 25yrs ago.

6yrs ago I decide to move away as my DC had left home, the house I'd been in for 20yrs was too big so I wanted to downsize to a cheaper county.

I found a little house I liked, bought it, on moving in day there was a card from the previous owner saying they'd lived there 20yrs and raised a family and hoped I'd be happy. Same kind of card I'd left for the people who bought my house.

Decided to see if DF was still around as this was an area she used to live in. Tracked her down and we arranged to meet for a coffee.

Turns out I'd bought her daughter's house.

While backpacking through South America as a teen before uni, I met a girl in a hostel dorm who mentioned she was going to the same university as me - we exchanged email addresses as we thought it would be a long shot we’d bump into each other again seeing as we were doing very different courses. Arrived for my first day in halls and she was in the room next door to mine - still friends 25 years later and were each others’ bridesmaids.

CoralOP · 14/05/2025 08:58

OK this one is pretty grim...
I had an awful dream one night that a distance relative was burning and chasing me trying to stab me, she looked like she had turned into a witch or something, it was very scary.
My sister rang me that morning so say she died in the night 😬

Yorkshiremum80 · 14/05/2025 09:04

I was in New York many years ago with my now ex and was explaining to him about the Magnolia Bakery being in the Sex and the City series and Carrie had had these lovely looking cupcakes from there, as we stood outside. He then said oh you mean her and pointed to Sarah Jessica Parker who was waking past with Matthew Broderick!

NeverGoingToMove · 14/05/2025 09:05

Couple of incidences of bumping into people I know in foreign countries /airports but here's mine:

As a student in my last year at uni, I applied for an internship at the Dutch oceanographic institute and got it. For various reasons, I turned it down to take a job in the UK.

Through a friend online, a year or so later, I met my Dutch DH.

His family own the business next to the Dutch oceanographic institute and he worked there the years I would have been next door.
I feel like we were fated to be together which ever path I had chosen to take. 9 years married and we're still so happy together.

Biomic · 14/05/2025 09:06

About ten years ago I discovered I have a half sister, we did not grow up together. We made contact and I found out that her eldest daughter has the same name as my eldest. It was not a very popular name at the time, and there are a few variations of spelling. But we had both chosen the same spelling of the name.

Back in 2022,we lost my darling fil who had been a builder
My in-laws live down south,I'm from up north but live in the Midlands with dp
I'd taken time off work to go to the funeral and was on my second day back and feeling very fragile
I work in retail and was out on the dining area when a couple walked in
They couldn't work out how to do their order so I gave them a hand
Got talking to them and they not only knew my fil as a friend,he'd fitted their windows, they'd been to my sils funeral and knew darling mil and dp well
I couldn't believe it-we live almost 200 miles away-what where the odds of them living near my in-laws,knowing them, then moving down the road to where dp and i live and then walking into my workplace, getting chatting to me and not one of my colleagues?

My parents once went away on holiday
They got chatting to another couple-the couple had my parents first names, their surname was one letter different to theirs, their children where the same names, ages and sex as us siblings and had the same birthdays
Both woman eat meat like its going out of fashion but both men where vegetarian and eco warriors
Both women drove the same style and colour car and both men rode the same type and colour of motorbike
My parents live in a street that is named after the village a few miles away-the other couple live in that village and had the same house number
Their phone numbers where one digit different
I was pregnant with my first baby and so was their dd
We both had girls-say mine was called Sophie louisa, hers was called Sophia Louise
Both born on the same day, same birth weight, both had a shock of black hair, born within a minute of each other, both had the same first outfit and (unusual) pram and as they grew up,both went to schools with two letters different-different schools and areas (same colour uniform and the teacher had the same surname)
My mother was so impressed, she's stayed in touch and meets up regularly with them (many more coincidences, like both babies growing up and studying the same subjects and getting the same grades and the boys all working in the same trades as their namesakes, and marrying woman with the same names)
My father was that freaked out,he refused to speak of them!

Sunnyside4 · 14/05/2025 09:13

I hadn't seen my Nan for a few years due to my Mum falling out with her (Nan and I kept in touch occasionally with letters though). I went on holiday with a friend when I was 17, we looked into a greasy spoon cafe and decided it wasn't for us. My Nan and her friend were in the cafe (on holiday) - her friend hadn't seen me since I was a baby, but had seen the odd photo I'd sent Nan came after me in the street on the off chance it was me. My Mum couldn't say much, so after that I went up and stayed with Nan a couple of weekends a year.

garlictwist · 14/05/2025 09:16

I do a fair bit of cycle touring. On a trip with a friend in the early 2000s in Italy we got chatting to a group of Norwegian cylists, had a meal with them and left.

Bumped into the same guys whilst cycling in the Highlands of Scotland 15 years later.

My DH was doing work on a building in a different town, he mentioned where it was, that it was a childcare establishment and that it was a shithole in a dodgy area, he would never send his kids there - turned out to be my nursery I went to 50 years ago

Breadtomatoandcheese · 14/05/2025 09:26

My second husband's b'day is the same as my exH's eldest son who was born 10 years before I remarried.

We got married (2nd H) on my grandparents wedding anniversary. They had died many years previously and never knew my 2ndH. I only found out when I was clearing out my late auntie's house after she died and found an old b'day book.

DelboytrottersDnecklace · 14/05/2025 09:35

I forgot about the one that freaks me out
About 10 years ago,I was seeing a bloke from the Midlands
I used to live up north,so had travelled down to see him for the weekend
We had a huge row and I stormed out, wandered around for a while and went back to get my head down before going home the following morning
I broke up with nobhead and a few months later,I went back on the dating site where I'd met him and met my now dp
We'd been dating for about a year (him coming up every weekend to see me) and we got chatting about that weekend with dickhead ex
Turned out,dp had left his wife that very same weekend and had moved into a house share the next street along-you could see his bedroom window from exs bedroom window
And around the time I'd stormed out,he'd gone for a walk to clear his head
He remembered me walking past him looking angry and tearful at the same time but didn't stop me as he thought it would be intimating for me (he hadn't realised it had been me)
We now live together at the opposite end of the street where I walked past him
