Holy crap constipation

blubbyblub · 11/05/2025 21:02

i have had constipation the past week or so. Just normal pebbly poos some episodes had slightly harder to get out but this evening I had it like never before. Sweating, chills, felt faint, massive anxiety and pain. Like trying to give birth to the thing.
I had no idea it could be this bad. I think I’ve passed it all now but it’s been a whole evening of mad crying, rocking, sqatting, yelling and feeling like I’m going to vomit.

the relief now is remarkable and I feel exhausted. Terrified illl give myself a prolapse.

do people get it this bad? How have I never had this before? Good grief how bad is it of you become impacted? I honestly felt like I might die

I’ve had this exact thing over the last two weeks due to pregnancy. You can take Fybogel sachets each morning and evening for a while and that should sort you out. Maybe until the box is used up. Constipation can be awful indeed.

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 11/05/2025 21:07

If they’re pebbles, like rabbit poo, you’re dehydrated, so chug chug chug.

ive never had constipation like you, but ill do a bite down and one push and if that doesn’t do it, a pessary up the bum. I’ve had a haemorrhoid before (and surgical removal) and there’s no way in hell I want to risk that again

blubbyblub · 11/05/2025 21:08

Thanks. I had movicol and fibogel in the house so I took both.
I had no idea it could be this bad. Must feel worse for you being pregnant. It honestly felt like I might collapse or burst something or have a recital prolapse. Or just die. It actually sent me into a panicked state

The feeling faint is a vasovagal response. I've know the elderly to pass out when trying to go to the toilet.
In extreme cases, I've known patients to have faecal vomit.
It's been warm and you need to keep up with your fluids and fibre.
Im glad it's all out now!

I’ve had that op too and you are right. I’m not wanting to go through that again. What pessaries and where do you get them? Boots?
do you just push them into the poo at the inside of your colon/anus?

That sounds horrendous! It sounds like you had it worse than me actually but I can relate as mine was pretty bad. With Fybogel, don’t get complacent; take it for at least a few days morning and evening or you’ll just be back to where you started.

As someone else said, it sounds like a vasovagal response you had. Those feel really scary. I think you should take it very easy this evening and tomorrow because you’ve been through a lot of stress.

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 11/05/2025 21:11

Yep, any OTC from Boots - own brand, Dulcolax etc.

you’ll start cramping quite quickly but hold on as long as you can. Some are also osmotic, so it’ll draw water into the impacted poo making it easier to come out

the problem with swallowing things is now you’re just piling up more backlog on top of, essentially, a plug of impacted poo mass!

The intestines are between 15-26ft long!!! The poops are only in the last 12-15 inches. How does that get pushed back up through 15-20 feet of intestines to your stomach? 😱

that sounds horrendous

Even if what I’m putting in is water? With that soften things?

Oh OP! You have my full sympathy as I had this after I gave birth. I stupidly let the constipation go on for too long and it was awful. I felt so shakey and faint afterwards, I actually had to give a erm..tug... to help move things along. It was awful!

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 11/05/2025 21:28

You’re ok drinking water - some people swear by orange juice too.

Just be careful eating anything with too much stodgy fibre. Maybe stick to vegetables and fruit? Probably not any Fybogel or bread etc until you’ve cleared the runway!

HeyCooper · 11/05/2025 21:29

Fybogel is the answer!

That’s the weird thing. I’ve been eating loads more fruit lately. It’s weird that I’m so constipated

And drinking water?

ProseccoCheeseBooks · 11/05/2025 21:53

Really think about your position too when you’re trying to go. Give it a google. Heels off the floor, that sort of thing. TMI but once to calm myself down I laid down on the floor to go. It did work because I felt I could fully relax the body as no part of me needed to be tense to hold a position

Elfie23 · 11/05/2025 21:56

I haven’t read all the comments but I suffer with constipation and have since a child.
ive tried things like fibrogel and ducolax but I find if there is a blockage they don’t help.
Best thing for it is Boots Glycerin suppositories - run it under warm water first and they go in pretty easily but you have to push it up as far as you can (sorry tmi!) but it literally takes about 2/3 mins to work x

No, this is not right for everyone, it depends if you have issues in your bowel. I wouldnt be able to go in this position.

And drinking water?

Yeah I drink water and herbal teas. But maybe I need to drink more as it’s been warmer

Haha yes I tried everything. Sitting in a bowl of warm water. Lying on the floor. I have a stool thing in front of the loo to raise legs.

it shocked me how bad it was.
weirdly my young adult dd just cane home from her BF and she had exactly the same thing. Down to the anxiety panic and sweating.

Oh goodness, well I hope you are both ok from now on. Have to say, it may have been a coincidence, but my absolute worst episode was the morning after the night before I tried a particular alcohol for the first time. I’ve never ever had it since incase it was that.
