I can confirm that blondes do have more fun

I’ve been a brunette my whole life (occasionally getting reddish highlights for fun) but basically dark brown hair.

I started getting quite a bit of grey in my hair a year ago and decided that I needed to take action before the grey became too much. I’m 45.

So over the past few months I’ve been getting blonde highlights put in and my hair is gradually getting blonder.

and I’ve noticed a significant difference in looks I get on the street, now that I’m “blonde”. Male heads turning with much more frequency than they ever have before. And just feeling more “noticed” generally. (I’m happily married and am not going after attention intentionally.)

nothing else about my appearance has changed, haven’t lost or gained any significant weight etc.

its been a bit of an eye opener for this brunette anyway!

anyone else experienced this?!

It's probably your excitement about a change, increased confidence and the closer monitoring of reactions.

You might think that, but us brunettes and redheads just don’t brag about it 😂

I’ve never noticed a difference whether I’m my natural dark brown- black or much more blonde (and every colour in between).

GRCP · 11/05/2025 19:57

I noticed it the first time I went blonde. Less so the second time. I think I look much better with dark hair but I’m the same as you were - going greyer and greyer so I think I’m going to have to go down the highlight route!

It happened to me too when I went blonde in my late 30s due to going grey. I'd been a blonde child but a brunette adult and always had some admiring glances (as you do at that age) but after I started the blonde highlights, these increased very noticeably. I'm still blonde at 71 and when I'm driving with my sunglasses on, I look more youthful and have much more male attention than my younger friends with white or brunette hair. I don't seek it (or even want it to be honest) but it's definitely a 'thing'.

I went blond for my wedding. I’ll never look that hot again

My sister and a good friend are both classic blondes. My hair is mousy brown. They’ve both had much more street harassment than me - not sure that is something to be happy about.

Rhaidimiddim · 11/05/2025 20:50

Is that really your idea of fun?

howrudeforme · 11/05/2025 20:57

Not sure about about fun but I would say more attention.

I think light colour hair from a distance makes people think of youthfulness.

Cousin and I are natural blondes, our sisters are brunettes. We always got/get harassed more. It's not fun @Glamorous24, unsolicited and unwanted male attention is not fun.

Glamorous24 · 11/05/2025 21:06

I’m being glib when quoting the old saying that “blondes have more fun”

I also don’t think that unwanted male attention or harassment is something that any woman should have to deal with.

but as a lifelong brunette I’d never really believed that blondes must get a lot more of this, so I had a bit of a shock when I now see that there is substance to this assertion.

You only have to observe the behaviour of women who have been blonde all their lives to know that there is a definite advantage. I have been observing for years the increased self-esteem, sense of entitlement and the way others treat them that emanates from blondes. They are definitely more taken notice of, listened to etc.
Not that i am jealous of course .....

onwardsup4 · 11/05/2025 21:15

I’ve been blonde off and on for years I haven’t noticed any more unwanted male attention being blonde than brunette but yes more looks in the street etc. However I always glance at blondes too I think the lighter and brighter colour grabs your attention

PrettyPuss · 11/05/2025 21:20

I have naturally dark blonde hair which has been highlighted or dyed lighter blonde for most of my life. On a couple occasions, I’ve dyed it dark.

In my experience, blonde is definitely more fun. For sure. But I think probably because it just suits me better.

Disturbia81 · 11/05/2025 22:20

One of the big reasons I dyed my natural blonde hair dark most of my life is because of the unwanted attention. I still get it a lot but when I was blonde it seemed men just saw the hair and reacted, no matter who was under it.

rivalsbinge · 11/05/2025 22:24

I’m a natural blonde and went dark once, like a rich brown, loved it personally but after a month went back as I feel a bit meh.
