I have googled but am unsure I am completely correct.
i arrive at Euston Station and am meeting friends for dinner - nearest station West Brompton.
is it best to go from Euston station ( not square) to Victoria then change to West Brompton On another line.Do people still use Oyster cards Or use bank cards?
you can guess I don’t get out much !

Download the tube app and use the journey planner option

Don’t bother with Oyster Card just use Debit Catd

xmasdealhunter · 11/05/2025 17:38

I'd go from Euston to Victoria as you said, and then the District line to West Brompton. Oyster or card or apple pay, whichever you prefer x

ImWearingPantaloons · 11/05/2025 17:39

I’d go Victoria line southbound from Euston, then change for the District line at Victoria to take you to West Brompton.

i still use an Oyster card but most people seem to have moved into phones or watches now

Thank you - I admit to being a bit rubbish with apps - so just needed an idea in my head.

Yes to changing at Victoria, if you can’t see a District train to Wimbledon then catch whatever comes & change at Earls Court.

Make sure you use the same card when tapping in & tapping out.

BangersAndGnash · 11/05/2025 17:41

Just use your contactless card to tap in and out of the tube. Make sure you use the same one all day.

Euston to Victoria, change onto District line to West Brompton

Another vote for Victoria line to Victoria then change to District line. I use an Oyster card but you can just use a bank card (just make sure it's the same one to touch in and out).

If you don't want an app, you can use the TfL journey planner on the TfL website.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/05/2025 17:44

Just make sure that you tap in and out, with the same card or device. I got fines because I tapped in with a card, then out with my phone. I had no idea they counted as different cardsz

BrickBiscuit · 11/05/2025 18:01

Use the same card or device all day (or week if longer) so you benefit from daily (or weekly) fare caps. Some rail cards can be loaded onto an Oyster (by station staff) for off-peak reductions.

Where are you coming in from? West Brompton is on the Mildmay line. It’s also on southern on the Watford junction to Clapham junction line. You may be able to avoid Euston and tube.

unsync · 11/05/2025 19:13

I know you said you don't like apps, but Citymapper is great for getting around London. You can use it to plan your route beforehand or in real-time. It also shows which end of the platform / train you need to be for ease of exit at your destination.

Girlinakagoule · 11/05/2025 19:24

Thank you all again - I will have a look at Citymapper and try and be a bit more proactive.
i appreciate everyone’s advice.

Without wanting to putt a downer on things - do be careful if you have your phone out on/near stations, there is a lot of grabbing of phones in central London. I try to avoid getting mine out these days and when I do need to I turn around towards a wall/doorway so it is less easy to grab.

I would also try this trick if possible. Depends where you’re coming from and whether it’s rush hour. I might also walk to Euston Square and take the Circle Line, maybe change at Edgware Road, to avoid travelling through the West End. At certain times the Victoria Line and Victoria itself get very busy and uncomfortable.

Ddakji · 12/05/2025 07:44

It doesn’t sound like you need an app as you have the journey spot on! I just use the tube map and google maps.

The Mildmay line is often up the spout so I really wouldn’t do this route unless the Victoria line was down.

Good point. Whatever route I’m using, if possible I start out with double the journey time I need. I tend to use up some or all the slack on about 30% of inter-city journeys and 10% of short hops.

Yes. And it’s also well worth having a backup route planned.
