Would you trust a man to take the contraceptive Pill?

This has been talked about since i was a teenager (im now in my early 50s so not personally affected any more) but it looks like American scientists may have cracked it. YCT-529 prevents sperm production without affecting testosterone levels or disrupting libido. It targets a protein called retinoic acid receptor alpha which plays a crucial role in making sperm. By blocking this receptor the drug stops sperm production without interfering with male hormones.
Im too old to worry about this now personally but if this had been available when i was younger i would have said no and continued with my own contraception being childfree by choice.
So would posters here think that men should share the burden of contraception re a Pill or would you want to stay in control?

No, but I still think it's useful for men who want to be sure or to double up in a couple.

I'd possible been more pro it when the kids were young as he did not want another child at all. before we had children he didn't know how hard it was and he might have forgotten

I think it is a excellent choice for a man who does not wish to be a father

but given the number of pregnancies where the pill isn’t taken correctly any woman who does not wish to get pregnant should also take responsibility for their own contraception as well

for married couples possibly

Would be ideal for us as I can no longer take hormonal contraception and my last pregnancy happened when I had a coil in.

DH wants more children even less than I do (and I'm an absolutely never again!) and is the more organised of us in terms of medication as he takes other meds daily and has since childhood so would be completely reliable.

No , nothing to do with him being a man just the fact that i would want to be 100% in control of my own body .

I would trust my partner to take it. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be in a relationship with him. I’d probably check with him that he’d taken it, but he used to check that with me sometimes too, just because it can be easy to forget to take it. When I was on the pill, we both saw it as both of our responsibility, not just mine.

SilverTapz · 11/05/2025 19:43

No. Abusive men would use it to trap women by pregnancy.

Surroundedbyfools · 11/05/2025 19:44

I’ll be honest …. I wouldn’t trust most men to properly wipe their own arse.

BatchCookBabe · 11/05/2025 19:53

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! 😂

NO! Hmm

If if men could be trusted to take a contraceptive pill. Most men can't be faffed to wear a condom. They DGAF about any pregnancies. Not them left holding the baby is it? Wink

Does it protect against HIV and syphillis, I guess not

Neither does the female contraceptive pill.

JazzyJelly · 11/05/2025 20:17

No. I'd be constantly anxious in case he forgot.

I can also imagine men taking it on the sly whilst 'trying for a baby'.

i don’t trust modern medicine. I wonder what damage this one does
