*Lighthearted!* DD has a boyfriend and it’s all a bit strange

DD is 22 and has met a lovely lad, they’ve been for numerous coffee and shopping dates, for meals out and last night a proper night out clubbing.

He stayed here in her room last night for the first time and I’m just not used to having a ‘man’ around the house (it’s been just me and DD for a couple of years).

They’ve not surfaced from her room properly yet but he’s been out to the loo and I can smell him 🫣 not a horrible smell, just a ‘man’ smell of a bit of aftershave (it’s a little bit sickly) and just a ‘man’ I guess.

Im so weirded out by it, I have a DS who did the same, brought a girlfriend home and stayed but it was all so different having a tiny sweet girl coming to stay than having a huge bloke around.

I’ll probably get flamed for this 😬 someone please tell me I’ll get used to having him around in time. I’d never stop DD having him here but I never thought I’d be glad for a time when my adult kids had places of their own 😆

He has stayed one night
you have got the vague whiff of a man in your house
and I truly can’t see what you’re asking?

BigDahliaFan · 11/05/2025 08:09

yes, I know what you mean. Except in our case it was sweet little girls who would suddenly turn up in the kitchen in the morning. Looking for coffee…

GoodonHamzah · 11/05/2025 08:09

If he treats your daughter well and she seems happy, then I wouldn’t think twice about any whiff of sickly after shave

ecuse · 11/05/2025 08:11

I would be totally weirded out by that too. But you're clearly a lovely mum, and are letting her have her boyfriend over even though it's a bit weird 😁
My girls are 14 and 10 so I haven't got there yet but I'm sure you will get used to it! And maybe he'll make himself useful, get the odd thing down from a high shelf or something?!

Lazydogonthebed · 11/05/2025 08:13

I think I’m just not used to having a man around the place again. DS and his boy smells are long gone (now lives with his lovely, sweet tiny GF in their own home) 🤣

I get it @Lazydogonthebed We had our fair share of adult children's partners round the place over the years. Fortunately only long term ones. It does really shift things, I found. We also had a time when it was just me and teenage DDs at home, then DS returned for a bit having gone from boy (late teens,) to man. It's been like a carousel here at times and much as I love my children ( and their spouses now) I like it best when it's just me and DH ( and GC because they are cute and smell lovely even when they've just got out of bed 😍)
It's odd meeting unfamiliar young adults on the stairs on a morning, isn't it?

What’s with the ‘sweet, tiny’ stuff?

AtomicBlondeRose · 11/05/2025 08:30

At work we have a small department office - our male colleague left and for a year it was just me and my female colleague in there - we’re teachers so don’t spend all day in the office but bob in and out, and when our new male teacher started it was such a shock to pop in there and have it smell of man! Not a horrible smell, but male aftershave/deodorant etc. And he puts the radio and all the lights on! We do all get along but we liked our female bubble.

It’s a lighthearted thread! I don’t think OPs terminology needs to be picked apart.

Even my grandchildren are bigger than me and a teenage boy of over 6 foot seems to take up an awful lot of space. He’s quite particular about aftershave though.

Agreed!
Even the shoes are like boats. OP is just noting the contrast I think.

Ha ‘sweet, tiny’ DS’s partner is 4’10 and about 6 stone something.
this lad is 6’3 and built like a house. He’s lovely but I’m not used to having him around I guess. This appears to be the beginning of a serious relationship though so he’ll be made fully welcome and I’m sure he’ll be useful at some point 🤣

The shoes! They were by the front door and had to be a 12 or 13 - like boats!

DS’s GF used to be able to climb the stairs, go to the bathroom etc without you even knowing, I can definitely hear this guy around the house.

I'm used to big shoes 🤣 DH size 12, DD2 size 10. Shoe size bigger than her dress size.

That's the spirit!
I've found my strapping sons in law to be extremely useful on occasion!
And they are lovely with it 😍

The huge shoes in the hall, or not, are how I check sometimes if the bfs (2 dds) are in! Though my girls do let me know, exact timings aren't always given.
