We are going to London with 2 teens. We would love a ye olde cobbledy streets area with lovely pubs and restaurants - which area do ye reckon? Any suggestions ?

Some bits of Shad Thames and Bankside are like this (around the Anchor pub). Also some areas of the City just to the East of St Paul’s eg Bow Lane. But there aren’t that many areas of London that feel old and cobbled streets (timber framed buildings mostly lost in the Great Fire). If you want old cobbled streets head to Norwich - Elm Hill.

Budget?

Radyward · 10/05/2025 22:03

We need 2 rooms so max 300 pounds a night in total

We just stayed at the Waterloo park plaza and we loved it. There’s a little pool and a gym, cute restaurant, hip design and a 2 min walk from this very cool area by the train station (totally forgotten the name) with food carts and a great nightlife vibe. Could have stayed a year!

You won’t find it in Shoreditch.

up’n’coming hipster gritty urban, yes.

I like the tower hotel for the views. If you then cross the bridge and turn left you can find a very cute cobbled street for the gram, and then go back to south bank to find pubs etc

Brooklyn70 · 10/05/2025 22:07

what about somewhere in Seven Dials?

It’s by Covent Garden, but Monmouth St for instance is very cute and has loads of cafes and restaurants nearby.

Radisson Blue has a hotel in Mercer Street.

Someone else mentioned it but I was thinking of Shad Thames

Is that £150 a room?

Radyward · 10/05/2025 22:11

Yes it is. I mean maybe we can go to 350 pounds each

Bear in mind tower bridge area is not near theatre land etc - think it took us 45 mins to walk, although there are tubes obv.

As a PP said, there are a few streets here and there in the city and in central london that are cobbled & olde worlde but most of london is not like that. Near Tower you could go to the Tower Hotel or the Leonardo. For Shoreditch the Courthouse Hotel is nice and well located near Old Street (there is a Holiday Inn near there too but it’s not as nice)

ElleDeeCB · 11/05/2025 08:17

Maybe somewhere around Spitalfields would combine the ye olde interests (Dennis Severs house etc) plus cool markets on Brick Lane etc for the teens?

ElleDeeCB · 11/05/2025 08:23

You could look at the Wilde Aparthotel about getting an apartment for 4 people.

For cobblestones and olde pubs, it's hard to beat the George. It's an old carriage inn and is very cute. Book a table though.

And then you can stay somewhere more central and convenient. The Hub Hotels could be good with teens, if they share well.

What age are the teens? You may have to make a booking which on the face of it is one adult one child per room.

There’s a travelodge at Bank and one on City Road, both of which will easily let you walk to the remaining pieces of London Wall, the narrow streets near Farringdon etc.

£150 a room a night in London isn’t a huge budget. If you are staying several nights, look at Airbnb.

MimiSunshine · 11/05/2025 08:34

I had a similar budget and found it very tight to get a hotel in London for that, at least anywhere I wanted to stay.

ended up and would recommend the Premier Inn Tower Bank, was a good location for The Tower and Great Fire monument. Plus can can walk over either London or Tower Bridge to get to the south bank and take a walk along there past the golden hind and the globe.
the hotel is also right in front of the ‘walki talki’ building so can go up to the viewing deck.

The premier inn was about £100 per night (but it wasn’t the peak days)

I'd stay near Waterloo, you can walk through to bankside, the arches, blackfriars.
