.....I'm not perimenopausal, I'm pregnant. About 6 weeks. Two strong lines. I am stunned. I'm almost 44. I've been drinking and coloring my hair and not taking folic acid. I'd so hoped to give my dc a sibling and it didn't happen so I closed the door on it. I know there's a strong possibility I'll miscarry but it doesn't feel like it, somehow. DC is 3 and I was starting to look forward to life evening out a bit and getting a bit of time back for me.

Please tell me if this happened to you and it worked out ok?

A friend didn’t know she was pregnant and spent a week on holiday getting pissed every night. Baby is perfectly fine, she’s nearly 8 months. Just start with your pregnancy vitamins/folic acid etc. Congratulations!

Hi, I was you a few years ago! Unexpectedly pregnant at 43, with a 3 year old. It was the first time I’d ever conceived naturally (DC1 was ivf).

All is ok, they’re now 3 and 7 and I’m so glad they have each other. Despite the arguments!

I had my two DC in my 40s, both fine. Had CVB both times, then first time round I never got any midwife appts until after my 20 week scan, slipped through the net even though it was in theory a higher risk pregnancy. No problems with either pregnancy or breastfeeding.

So many times on these threads you get people who had their babies in their 20s saying there's no way they could do it in their 40s - but I think they're thinking about having babies in your 40s when you already have teenaged kids and have done all the baby stuff already. I don't think I found it any harder in my 40s than I would have in my 20s tbh.

Don't worry about hair dye or blue cheese or a few glasses of wine etc. Most risks put to pregnant women are vastly overstated.

Congratulations 💐

My Mother had her last child my little sister at 44, she is an evil cow but that’s nothing to do with my Mothers advanced maternal age.

AnotherNaCha · 10/05/2025 16:09

Congrats! I’ve read on here quite a few success stories with women older than you by quite a long shot. My friend did it at 49, also thinking she as menopausal… this positively if you can!

SockFluffInTheBath · 10/05/2025 16:10

Congratulations OP! DC2 was a bump in the night- no folic acid, I was drinking, colouring my hair, and on the pill. She’s physically stronger/healthier than DC1.

Chicken5ausage · 10/05/2025 16:11

Ah at least you are still ‘in it’ OP rather than your youngest being 16!

wonderful news, congratulations. I wish you all the best.

RobinEllacotStrike · 10/05/2025 16:12

Congratulations!!!
I had my 2nd child at 43. She’s 14 now.
its fantastic, she’s fantastic, life is good.

you will be fine 💜💜
try & ignore all the scaremongering older mums seem to be targeted with - older women have been having healthy happy babies for ever.

A couple of my friends had their first (and last) at 44/45. They're so happy. If you've already got a 3 year old, then it's not a massive deal.

AntiHop · 10/05/2025 16:21

Had my second child at 43. I made up mind in advance what I would do once having the nipt test. But tests showed low risk.

Elaine66 · 10/05/2025 17:02

Had my first and last at 43 - bit of a surprise but all went well!

Thank you all so much for your messages. They have been so reassuring and I'm really grateful. I am prepared to be knackered! Xx

It happened to me @DeborahVancesBeehive .🙈

Gave birth to a healthy baby at 45. Congratulations and good luck with your pregnancy.🌻😊

I got fall down drunk and had an x-ray before I knew I was pregnant with my second DC (at 38). I also had a 3 year old at the time. It will be fine, try not to worry!

romany4 · 10/05/2025 19:01

Not me but my SIL. Was due her injection. Forgot as busy at work. Found out at 44 that she was 17 weeks pregnant.

All absolutely fine. She's now 49 with a 5 year old.
Congratulations!
