Help a northerner navigate London

So I'm not as poorly travelled as the title says, more than happy to make my way to London, use the tube, Airbnb, all that jazz, I'm actually well travelled... But... I have Oasis tickets and my usual "I can stay wherever and just get the tube" happy-go-lucky attitude won't fly on that day.

It'll be very busy I expect, hotels have already put their prices up, I don't know what time the last train is on a Saturday night, or where the nearest tube station is, what line it's on. Is Wembley train station an underground stop, or just a train station for example.

Booked the tickets thinking it'll be ages away and I'll sort it later but we're getting closer and closer now and I need to book a hotel or Airbnb and sort how I'm going to get me and a teenager back to the hotel without it taking hours in traffic or multiple line changes on the tube.

Would much appreciate any advice. This'll be the first gig in London for us both so can't just hop back in the car and drive away like we usually would. There's actually two adults and two kids going to London, the other adult and child are doing their own thing instead but we're still sharing a room/Airbnb.

Wembley Park is on the tube - Jubilee and Metropolitan lines. So it's easy to get to/from other parts of London. Obviously though it'll be pretty rammed before/after the gig.

Oasis or not, London won't be quite as full as (eg) Manchester gets when there's a big gig.

I live in London, and went to the Eras tour and Bruce Springsteen at Wembley last year and in both cases, the hardest thing about it is getting on the tube afterwards as you can wait nearly an hour on Wembley Way as they (rightly) carefully manage the volume of people moving through the station. That's hard to avoid, regardless of where you stay, so I'd wear very comfortable shoes.

You're on the Jubilee line, so you could easily stay near Baker Street / Waterloo / London Bridge if you want to be central. You could go outward towards Stanmore and find a Premier Inn or whatever if that makes your eventual homeward journey easier, but you'd still have the same wait to get into the tube station, whether going inwards or outwards.

Others may be able to advise on non-Tube transport.

Don't use the absolutely useless TFL app. Get a paper tube map!

SmugglersHaunt · 09/05/2025 18:42

I don’t know Wembley that well, but it’s not that far out and I wouldn’t worry too much about getting across London if you need to - I imagine hotels etc in Wembley will jack up their prices massively, so I’d look for a travelodge somewhere else. Are you staying just for that night or a bit longer?

TheEndGameIsOn · 09/05/2025 18:43

IME the stations will be very busy after they let people out of the stadium so prepare yourself for that.

best advice I can give you is to download the city mapper app and use that to plan your transport options, and then add on an extra hour (not joking!) to deal with the crowds coming out of the stadium.

Thelondonone · 09/05/2025 18:43

Just use google maps. Are you asking for recommendations for where to stay?

Acc0untant · 09/05/2025 18:48

Thanks all. Just stopping the 1 night. Don't mind having a long wait for the tube but wasn't sure if there was a last train time I needed to be aware of.

No idea where to stay, I can't check the tube timetables until I put an end destination in but until I know there isn't a last train at 11:30pm type deal I wasn't even sure where to look for a hotel based on that particular tube line.

The Jubilee Line runs all night on a Saturday

BassesAreBest · 09/05/2025 18:52

Look at the hotels around Wembley Stadium - I got lucky with a room for the Eras tour, and there are a lot of hotels around there, including 2x Premier Inns (although they’re in very different locations so if you do get one of those make sure you go to the right one!)

Otherwise look for something on the Jubilee line because that runs as part of the Night Tube on a Saturday.

FrodoBiggins · 09/05/2025 18:54

You can also get the train - Wembley Station into Marylebone, 11 min journey and runs about 4 times every hour, last one on a Sat is at 23.44. I reckon Baker St/Marylebone area would be a good shout for easy train or tube from Wembley, and a nice base for the family members not going to the gig.

What are the other adult and child going to do? I was going to suggest to stay in Waterloo / London Bridge on the jubilee. Yes it will be busy after the concert but that's to be expected. But do you need to get the train back from Euston the following day?

Not sure if it's cutting it fine..gig has to end by 11 but sounds like it'll be ages to get out

We'll all do a couple of bits together during the day but the other child will only be 18 months so an early bed time

M1 seems to be the fastest according to Google maps

Having had a further discussion we are open to me and the teen getting the train down and staying wherever, and dad and baby staying home instead.

In that case I think you should stay somewhere on the jubilee line eg Waterloo and then have a lovely day in the centre of town the day after!

Awesome thank you. Looks like the Jubilee line is 24 hours and it stops at Wembley Park so feels a good choice.
