It is a sign of how small my world has become….

…that I’m genuinely proud of myself for having accurately eyeballed 220g of green beans for a recipe.

(I started to doubt myself so checked it with scales - 220g, right on the button).

Feel free to share your tiny accomplishments!

I never have to set an alarm. I can always wake up at the exact time that I need to, or just before. Even a 3am start to get to the airport. (Though I do always set an alarm for those, just in case. Never needed it).

ByeByeByeee · 09/05/2025 20:09

Walked into the kitchen seconds before the oven timer went off 😎

My superpower is I am really good at cutting things (cake or cheese, usually) into thirds and fifths. 💅🏻

I perfected this skill as a child. House rule for cake and any treat division was one cuts, the other one chooses! Gets your eye in

Curlygirl06 · 09/05/2025 20:35

I can remember really really random facts about people that they might have mentioned in passing years ago.
I used to work in a bank, I can remember people's bank account numbers, their addresses, all sorts but not their name.
Banking related I guess, but I can do mental arithmetic really really quickly, so much so that I have to go back over it slowly to check that I've got it right.
Can get lost in a cupboard though!

Bjorkdidit · 09/05/2025 20:44

I once had a job testing bags of radioactive waste where I also had to weigh them. I could guess the weight of all the 10 to 30 kg sacks within half a kilo, meaning I didn't have to actually weigh them as we only needed the weight to the nearest whole kg.

I can also reliably return to the air fryer within 10 seconds befits going to finish.

I try to hit 75 litres of water for my shower, unless it's hair wash DAY then it's 100, almost always right

How do you check???

HarrietJonesFlydaleNorth · 09/05/2025 22:01

Yep, @NotjustCo2 - our family had five people, three kids so thirds and fifths it was. I was the eldest (and a girl) so was usually in charge of divvying out treats but we also had the ‘one cuts and the other chooses’ rule. Tbf we still use that rule when it’s just me and me da. 🤭

I would like the@Frontroomroomjunglenapping power though. Although about half the men in my family can nap on command, any place any time. I’m quite jealous of that 😆

Allseeingallknowing · 09/05/2025 22:05

Decide to WhatsApp my daughter at the same time she’s whatsapping me

Frontroomroomjungle · 09/05/2025 18:47

I am the Jack Reacher of naps. I decide I need a 20/40/60 minute snooze and lo, I wake at the designated time.

If I need to wake up at a set time, I do. Most mornings I wake up 10 minutes before the alarm goes off. It's weird.

Petrol - I can also put exactly £20 in the car. Not £19.99 or £20.01, £20.00.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 09/05/2025 22:30

The petrol one is witchcraft!!

I love this thread. I can't think of any special skills I might have, but I love the idea of small but really useful skills!

DreamTheMoors · 09/05/2025 22:59

I’m shite in the kitchen - I admit it. And my sister leads my family in reminding me every chance she gets.
But I can grow anything and my garden is a glorious sight to behold.
I take my sister big bouquets of flowers and greenery and roses whenever I visit.
Nothing prettier or more cheerful than a big bunch of flowers sitting on your kitchen table in a lovely vase - or maybe a jar or coffee can.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 09/05/2025 23:02

My ability to be able to cut 100g of cheese for a recipe and get it exactly right each time is something I am very proud of.

crackofdoom · 09/05/2025 23:09

After years of cutting and measuring plywood for work, my wood- size- estimating abilities are spot on. I don't think it's just me though, I overheard some builders recently asking a carpenter "Aren't you lot just supposed to know how long a piece of wood is?"

One of my favourite games is "guess the time before looking at it"
I'm really good at it! 😆

I’m really good at that too. I’m usually within two or three minutes of the actual time.

Theorderoftime · 09/05/2025 23:22

Okay, this isn’t so much a small achievement as it is a completely useless superpower, but I used to work in a jean shop and could magically guess people’s waist and leg measurements like some kind of denim whisperer.

DeedlessIndeed · 09/05/2025 23:27

DH still dines out on the time we were running DC's bath and I asked him to check the water temperature. He stuck his hand in and said it was 38.6 degrees.

I insisted we use the thermometer (PFB)... it was exactly 38.6 degrees. Never seen the man so overjoyed in my life.

mepipesneedlagging · 09/05/2025 23:33

Oh yes, the time one. Looking at my watch for the first time in an hour and it's 17:17 or 20:20 or 22:22 etc.
Pure joy 🤗

Allseeingallknowing · 10/05/2025 13:50

Icanttakethisanymore · 09/05/2025 21:43

How do you check???

Sounds like a lot of water wasted there!

leakycauldron · 10/05/2025 13:55

Food shopping I can usually guess the total, give or take £5

Also, if given options of anything I will always, without a doubt choose the most expensive option... without knowing prices first obviously.... my husband now no longer gives me options 😁

DrPrunesqualer · 10/05/2025 13:56

I divided up my pizza dough last night accurately ( within 5g). So bumper dough divided equally between 4.
Mind you I’ve been practicing for over 10 years every Friday

I also have a bachelors, masters and prof qualifications in Architecture but this little achievement was far more satisfying than fitting in some extra parking bays for a new high rise 🥱

theemmadilemma · 10/05/2025 13:58

Did that with 20g of butter. Posted about it on social media I was so proud.

Damnthat1sTaken · 10/05/2025 13:58

guessed 100g of quiche perfectly the other day before it went on the scale, was v proud of myself

PoodlesRUs · 10/05/2025 14:00

@Theorderoftime I need you in my life! It would make clothes buying so much easier.

@GarlicPile You're downright impressive!

GarlicPile · 10/05/2025 14:56

Not so much these days, @PoodlesRUs, but my old self thanks you!
