What is your current application to interview ratio?

After my career coach told me my CV sucked (I thought it was ok!) I've been thinking what's an actual decent conversion rate.

Reddit says that anything above 5% is decent. I would think it would have to be closer to 15-20%

76/0
I'm getting miffed now since i have received replies from around 15% of applications. The rest just ghost me

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 09/05/2025 13:18

Around 80%. But numbers aren't that high and it's all for CS employer for promotions. I apply for 1 job, usually get the interview, either get the job or don't, then wait for the next round of jobs and apply again if needed. When I've got the job I stay there for around 3years historically

Fitzcarraldo353 · 09/05/2025 13:18

Just over 30% at the moment. I'm being quite selective and yarge about what I apply for.

The reply rate so far is 30-40% but I only started last week, and have only applied for 10 roles.

I do think that after a week if no reply, it's a rejection.

I wouldn't assume that. Some roles ove gone for had to massively adjust their timescales due to the numbers of applications (550 in one case). It can take up to month for rejection but two weeks past closing date for invitation to interview is about my average.

Panicmode1 · 09/05/2025 13:24

100% - but I've only applied for two and been offered both..

DH (9 months in to redundancy from a v senior/global role) has probably applied for about 250+ jobs and has had a 10% interview rate, and as yet, no conversion :-(

Purpleisnotmycolour · 09/05/2025 13:26

3 applications, 3 interviews, 0 offers. I am rubbish at interviews and need to up my game but don't know how to.

That's pretty impressive.

I have found that if I like the job/company and prepare well I can get the job (as long as I get to interview stage of course!)

I’ve applied for just under 30, had 3 interviews, one of which has resulted in a job offer!

So 10% application to interview. I’d say of those 30 I heard back from about half…

@Isitameproblem I did really like the last organisation, prepared really well, thought I answered well. I need to be able to convert interviews to offers. Or actually just one! I'm very picky about where I apply as my job is ok, I just want a step up.

Ridingthespringwave · 09/05/2025 13:35

In terms of roles I've applied for that I really want (rather than ones that just get my CV in front of recruiters) I've had about 60% success. I've got two coming up, one of which I'm very hopeful of based on conversations so far, so hoping that'll be the end of the hunt. But I'm hearing about roles getting several hundred applications.

Isitameproblem · 09/05/2025 13:42

I think jobs getting hundreds of applications are the norm these days. I've also heard/read that many unqualified people apply, and that creates a lot of noise that aybe the actually qualified candidates can't get through.

The only thing I have in my favour is that I always get an interview if the role is fully bilingual, but those roles are rare (maybe one every 6 weeks or so).

Thanks- It’s been a slog, the market is tough at the moment. I hope you find your dream job soon!

Thank you! That's what I'm aiming for. It doesn't matter how long it takes, but obviously I'll officially be unemployed in September and we know recruiters prefer employed candidates.

It annoys me when candidates with lots of experience have to do a presentation that the employer is going to use without employing that person and getting the work and ideas for free

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 09/05/2025 14:48

In my entire career, I've applied for 21 jobs. I got interviews for 19 and successful for 8.
My lowest success rate was as a new graduate, applying for posts 2 years on the run. From 11 applications, 10 interviews and 2 job offers. After that I got smart at only applying for ones where I met all the essential and 60% of desirable criteria.
I think it's a lot harder these days to get a job if you're leaving school or uni, or trying to get back into the workforce.

I meet all of the criteria for most if not all of the roles I apply for, but not guess there's tons of us in our field!

100%. Every job I've applied for I've received an interview.
I did used to also have a 100% job offer rate too but then had a period where I just couldn't pull off the interview so my figures dropped.
I should say I don't move around that much and am tactical in what I apply for.
I've an interview Tuesday...first job I've applied for in 6 years but I'm manifesting I'll get it!

i have been asked a couple of those - i decline. And when recruiters ask me why i have torpedoed my chance of a job i tell them I'm not a freelancer and i don't work for free.

Lioncubhearted · 09/05/2025 16:42

Trying to return to work after sahm - 65 applications: 5 interviews (although 1 was cut short less than 5 minutes in as the guy hadn't read my application or seemingly the advert his HR department had published!). So 7.5%.
1 offer.

ItsNotaYouProblemItsThem · 09/05/2025 16:53

Been looking nearly 2 years.

18 applications, 5 first round interviews, 3 second round interviews, and got an offer last week. Writing my resignation this weekend!

Probably ghosted by half of the "declines".
