Inspire me - what would I like for my birthday?

Can't think of anything I really want. Have said get me something later, when I really want something, but the three that are asking really want to buy something now.

I like reading, walking, trying to get into mindfulness, exercise classes, plants.

However, I have seven books lined up to read already, a couple of books on mindfulness I'm slowly going through, just bought some new indoor plants and we don't really need any outside! Not against an edible treat, but am trying to limit carbohydrates and sugar for health reasons. I have enough candles. Have too many fun socks and toiletries.

So far on list are:

Bar dark chocolate
Diffuser

What do you imagine the budget to be?

Sunnyside4 · 08/05/2025 14:39

Oh, one major thing that's happening for us is a new kitchen end of month. DD has bought a fun picture with cats (I like them) dining at a table to hang up in there.

if it were me and the budget was respectable but not outrageous I would ask for a cinema subscription for a year.

Talking of budgets of £30 and around £60. Doesn't matter is it's smaller things to make up those amounts.

any holidays planned that you might need something for?

BoredZelda · 08/05/2025 14:43

I love a hamper. Homemade of lots of little stuff ranging from a tin of deodorant to the more expensive body moisturiser I like. The one I got at Christmas even had a fray bentos pie in it (occasional guilty pleasure that take me back to dinner at my late granny’s).

MiddleAgedDread · 08/05/2025 14:44

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 08/05/2025 14:45

A dried flower bouquet.

notacooldad · 08/05/2025 14:46

If your like me, nothing.
I've always big birthday coming up up and there is seriously nothing I want or need.
Im having a lot of pressure to tell people what I would like but I don't want anything.
I've asked for donations for a women's charity but people still want to get me something as well.

Latenightreader · 08/05/2025 14:47

I have had a lot of fun with lego botanical sets recently.

okydokethen · 08/05/2025 14:47

Leggings
gym towel/bag/hair accessories
necklace
earrings
mugs for new kitchen

An hour glass. Watch the sand fall through it as a mindfulness/meditation activity.

Edit: the one-person board-game A Gentle Rain is designed to be relaxing and inspire mindfulness.

UName38 · 08/05/2025 14:49

depending on who the people are

A token such as a small bar of chocolate, nuts, a lipstick so you have something to open on the day.

Then a chat about listening when you ask what someone would like- in your case a present later in the year. Could you pick a date though or they feel that it will just never happen and you won’t get a proper present this year. Maybe a month after the kitchen is done and you realise what is missing.

PersephonesPomegranate · 08/05/2025 14:51

I keep a 'wish list' because my partner has no imagination for gifts. I have a note in my phone and add to it throughout the year so that I can lob him some ideas at birthdays and Xmas: I'm in a nice position where I buy myself what I want but I do have some obscure fancies that I add to the list.
Some of the things on my list are:

Recipe cards/box (pretty ones)
Weighted blanket
Diffuser hairdryer
Kaleidoscope (Likely a future dust collector but they are pretty and I'd never buy one for myself!)
Bluetooth speaker for the kitchen
Dashcam for the car
Victoria Beckham satin kajal eyeliner
Pullman loaf tin
Metal detector - I suspect I have a buried secret (pun intended) skill in treasure hunting and it would encourage me to go on walks lol

menopausalfart · 08/05/2025 14:53

Tibetan singing bowl to help with mindfulness.
I have many indoor plants. quite a few rare, but my favourite are ferns. So beautiful.

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 08/05/2025 14:54

Why not just say you don't need anything and you don't want anything.
Easy
