Costa Coffee Barista not washing hands after petting dog

I know it's been done to death but.....

Honestly! If you're desperate to stroke dogs then please wash your hands. I got a filthy look and a banging cup down after requesting a hand wash after the prolonged pet and rubbing. (I was queuing directly behind). If you allow figs then stick to scrupulous hygiene practices !

They’re supposed to wash their hands every half an hour anyway, they have a timer for this. They shouldn’t be touching the animals if they’re going behind the bar.

complain to head office asap

Coffeeishot · 08/05/2025 20:19

They don't wash their hands after they have cleared tables touch cups and dirty napkins.id be more worried about human bacteria than a pet of a dog ! Imagine somebodies slobber on your latte mug !

I’m a dog lover and I ALWAYS say hello to the dogs that come by my job (which, sadly, isn’t often 😂). But I ALWAYS wash my hands after.

At home, I wouldn’t bother. But I’m not touching other people’s faces there (sounds weird, but it part of the job!).

However, what if the dog HAD been rolling in faeces?

In that case, believe me, you’d know - it’d stink!

@JustMeSammy They should be washing their hands regularly, and yes - each of those scenarios would require the staff member to wash their hands again.

And no, wearing gloves doesn't change it unless they change those gloves every time they touch something not food / drink related.

Washing hands regularly yes. I agree even though I wouldn't care personally either way. Who knows where the disposable cups have been and it the person stacking them had washed their hands after going to the loo and not wiping sufficiently before handling them because slavery minimum wage doesn't allow them a long enough break.

But stroking a dog doesn't mean 'eeeeew germs!!!! When compared to all the other things that person has touched. You're not going to get rabies off someone's family pet ffs. The precious woke attitude is not how we got so far as a species!

Seriously. Get over it.

I mean they weren't trailing their hands in shit and then dunking them in your coffee were they

Still fucking gross. Slightly less gross than shit I’ll give you that but both are gross and unacceptable.

No one mentioned rabies, so crack on with the hyperbole.

Dogs are not clean. Hands need to be washed when working in food preparation and service. Including after touching a dog. That is basic common senses and basic food hygiene.

snughugs · 09/05/2025 06:42

Wouldn’t bother me.

That’s a low fucking bar.

Of course anyone handling food or drink should wash hands after touching an animal.

Currywurstmitpommes · 09/05/2025 09:44

I see this a lot in pubs/ cafes where the wait staff strike a dog and then head back to serving without washing their hands - it’s rank - and against food hygiene legislation- def say something OP

Nor me.
It’s getting to the stage with MN that almost whenever I see the words ‘hygiene’ or ‘hygienic’ I think the poster is an obsessive clean freak who could probably do with therapy,
