Ds returned from the barber with scratches on his neck. Is this something you could reasonably expect to happen, or something that shouldn't happen?

You should probably contact the Daily Mail. Make sure you get a family ‘sad face’ photo to accompany the story.

TouchOfSilverShampoo · 08/05/2025 07:00

Yes that is something that you can reasonably expect to happen. Hope that helps.

dementedpixie · 08/05/2025 07:00

I dont think you need to be so rude @xxxwd

It's not good @Aparecium and I can even use a shaver on dhs neck and not make marks like that.

Really?
I wouldn't expect marks like that. I shave dhs hair and don't make marks and I'm not a professional barber.

If you’re a bit warm and sticky that can happen. Sensitive skin. I wouldn’t worry. It’ll be gone by tomorrow.

Userengage · 08/05/2025 07:04

Yes, it occasionally happens to my DS, no biggie - don’t sue!

StMarie4me · 08/05/2025 07:05

I think @xxxwdhas nailed it.

OP it’s not ideal, and I probably wouldn’t go back there. But good grief! What do you want? Compo? Is your DS traumatised? I mean really?!

Roselilly36 · 08/05/2025 07:09

No it shouldn’t, that is bad. I would apply sudocreme to the scratches hopefully they will heal soon. I had a bad experience with a hairdresser local to me burnt my neck & forehead with straighteners, didn’t ever go back there!

Popquorn · 08/05/2025 07:12

It can happen.

it’s not worth a fuss.

vote with your feet and go to a different barber.

Aparecium · 08/05/2025 07:13

Exactly, dementedpixie, I'm not any sort of barber and I have never left any such marks on my dh or boys' necks when clippering them. Dh never has scratches when he returns from the barber. Ds has just started going to the barber instead of asking me to do it. He doesn't know what to expect, and, never having seen this before, neither do I.

It’s no big deal, happens now and then. It’s literally a scratch.

TouchOfSilverShampoo · 08/05/2025 07:14

@dementedpixieLiterally happens all the time. Professional barbers equipment is sharper than a home kit and the kid is probably sweaty and it’s dragged on the skin.
The barber has hardly butchered the kid.

This, it's really common.more so on children as their skin is thinner. I've seen it loads. Best way to avoid it I'd to use talc or baby powder on the skin before a cut. It will form a barrier.

HollidaySunshine · 08/05/2025 07:52

Happens sometimes. It’ll be gone by morning

ParmaVioletTea · 08/05/2025 07:55

Looks like a birth mark. I have a red patch on my neck around there.

But really. The skin is irritated but not scratched. So trivial.

Lifestooshort71 · 08/05/2025 07:56

No, it's not usual but I agree it's no big deal. MOH went in to a random barbers in Spain for a shave (balding head and face) and came out with 3 bits of tissue stuck to him. Hopefully marks will soon go.
