Fleas - aaaaaaggghh

Literally the LAST thing I need on my plate right now, but after discovering random bites/red dots on legs and hands in recent weeks DD1 has found the evidence on her bed, which promptly hopped off elsewhere in the house. Great.

How do I quickly and effectively get rid of fleas? We're gutting DD1's room right now in order to clean it properly - this is no small feat by the way as it's horrendously untidy and cluttered. I strongly suspect they could be in our room too as I have had bites on my legs and feet, and I think DH does too. I have had fewer recently since washing/hoovering the bedding and bed more rigorously but I won't assume the problem is gone until it's gone.

We don't have pets in the house by the way, so no idea how they've got in, but no need to treat an animal at least.

Help. Any tips/advice/surefire methods very gratefully received.

I would say spray everywhere with Indorex. Good that you don't have pets as hopefully that'll be the last you'll see of them. If you really want to be sure, get a pest control guy in. I hate them. We have cats and the only thing that works to keep them away is the super strong prescription medication, but apparently some fleas are becoming immune even to that!

Flea bombs and flea spray. I prefer the spray bombs compared to the ones you light, have melted my carpet for those. You will have to leave the house immediately and then not return for at least a hour.
Or call in pest control but for them to spray the house its easier for as much furniture to be out of the way.

Also flea eggs can lay dormant for months. I moved in to a house that had sat empty for 4 months, the previous owner had cats.
After we decorated and put the carpet down just before we moved in it became apparent the place was riddled with fleas. Called a pest company for that and was lucky the house was pretty much empty so they could spray everywhere

Ok, thanks all. Been in touch with pest control and in the meantime we’re clearing her room so we can do a deep clean. Poor DD was really upset and couldn’t face sleeping there, I’ve sent her to stay with my mum for a night or two. It’s a horrible thought to be sharing your bed with an uninvited visitor - “fortunately” I’m so exhausted that I’m climbing into my bed anyway and trying not to think about it!

We had them when we moved to a new house. It was so hard to get rid of them.
You need to hoover every inch. Then spray. Them hoover again. Put a flea collar in the hoover bag to kill any. Mop any floors with hot bleach water. Repeat daily. It’s hard work. I sympathise.
When you think they are gone do it for a couple weeks after or the little buggers will be back!

As far as I understand whilst they can feed on human blood they can't reproduce on it so it shouldn't be too difficult to get rid of them if you have no pets in the home. Thorough clean, hoover first then spray indorex
