Neighbour's cat poo in my garden - and all around.

A neighbour's cat regularly poos in our garden. Not on the grass or on the soil, but all around down the paths and steps. Sometimes on the driveway so we have to be careful getting to the car.

The cat is clearly unwell as it's liquid poo. So is not even easy to clean up. It stains the stonework and just looks (and smells) gross.

Any suggestions on how to deter the cat?

I considered getting a pet lion.. ;)

You joke about the lion but can't you buy lion wee online to scare ofd cats?! Ivw no idea if it works.

That's very grim though. If there are fav spots could you lay newspaper and see if it'll use that? Not a real solution of course, but just to prevent the staining while you find a better course of action.

Throw a jug of water at the cat when you see it. Won’t hurt it, but deters it from roaming in your area.

I get some pet Zoflora to clean the areas with.

Aldo speak to your neighbour about it.

I never see the cat - most of our windows are at the back so don’t really see unless the cat comes into the back garden.

I did buy some zoflora to clean the most recent area - it was a lemon scent . I’ll look for the pet one

Are you sure it is cat? If its runny its more likely to be hedgehog.

I thought the same, or a fox, fox poo is much smaller than you'd expect.

Fox poo has a really distinctive stench, well known to me as it’s my dogs favourite perfume!

Oistinemup · 07/05/2025 16:14

No it’s the cat. The pile i saw yesterday was way more than a hedgehog would make . And if a fox had such runny guts for so long it would be dead by now.

I know the neighbours cat is unwell - it’s old .. so maybe time will solve the issue

Is there any way you could set up a motion activated camera to see if it is the cat? If it is then definitely mention it to your neighbour. Maybe set up a water sprinkler.

We got cat repellent gravel from the garden centre, it’s worked

It's only worth mentioning to the neighbour if you want them to do something specific, e.g. buy you some repellant spray.

Otherwise, they can have a word in their cat's ear, but I doubt it will help. Cats are free agents, and it would be cruel to keep it inside.

It does sound more like a fox to me though. Cats don't usually poo on concrete paths or grass - they like to bury it.
