Helping my Cousin with Universal Credit and I'm stuck..

My cousin is disabled and had the letter saying she had to migrate over to UC. She's not brilliant at processing information so I said I would help her with it all.

She just had the appointment to confirm her identity at the job centre and she was asked if she would need an advance payment to keep her going until her first payment and straight away she said no.

A few days later she has realised she won't have enough money to last the next month so would like an advance payment after all so I have just been on her account with her and we are both a bit confused with one thing..

I'm going to make the number up but say it says the maximum amount she can get for an advance payment is £565.92 does this mean this is the amount of UC she is likely to get paid each month? As in is the maximum advance amount the same as what they will pay you? So she will likely be paid £565.92 per month or does the advance amount have nothing to do with what she will end up getting paid?

I hope this makes sense, I have never claimed anything before so a bit lost

My advanced payment was a completely different amount to my monthly payment. I think it’s calculated on what will be affordable to pay back, but I could be wrong!

This might help?

Ignore anything from ChatGPT or Google AI on UC. It means well.

No, her advance payment is based on what's currently been verified. It may go up as more elements are verified. It doesn't include deductions. Don't use it as a guide to what she may get. Use the elements she's entitled to for that, and then remove any deductions that apply.

Then remember to account for transactional protection - but that applies to the amount BEFORE deductions, so unfortunately, it doesn't guarantee that she won't get less actually in her pocket each month. It really depends on her current benefits.

What benefit is she migrating from?

It says you can get up to 100% of your monthly payment as an advance
But from my own or others experience it isn’t something that happens and you aren’t given the opportunity to borrow 100%
