Could anyone recommend a a brand of noise cancelling headphones?

I am looking for something I can plug into my laptop and phone that would cancel/help lessen outside noise as I am really struggling at the moment.

The ones I have now are not great so any recommendations would really help.

I have Soundcore Q30 , they are Bluetooth rather than wired
But the connection to my laptop with no issues
They were about £50 off amazon about a year ago.
As well as been decent noise cancelling you can switch between NC and talk ( so you can hear people talk to you ) or transparency ( enhances outside sounds , very handy if you are out crossing roads etc ) all of this just by gently touching one of the ear pieces, so no fiddly buttons.

The app ( you dont have to use it if you don't want to ) has 30+ white noise sounds like gently hum , bird song , whale song , waves , train , traffic , wind , rain and loads of others.

Seconded the Soundcore Q30. They're made by Anker and they make good speaker products. I've had mine for over 3 years and use them a lot whilst working every day the battery still lasts a long time. At least 9 or 10 hours between charges.

Greenartywitch · 05/05/2025 22:17

Thank you both! that's really helpful.

I have Bose headphones and they are really good.
I tend to use them a lot on planes and the noise cancelling is really effective.

Peacepleaselouise · 05/05/2025 22:22

Edifer are good

CraftyNavySeal · 05/05/2025 22:22

I like my AirPods Pro, they probably aren’t as good at noise cancellation as headphones but I hate the feeling of headphones squeezing my head.

i have soundcore q20 by anker.

Ohthatsabitshit · 05/05/2025 22:30

Bose are brilliant. Educative for me though.

oustedbymymate · 05/05/2025 22:35

Do you need something that plugs in? I really rate my loop earplugs. They sit in your ears

Ifitaintgotnoswing · 05/05/2025 22:40

Whats the budget?
i have sony 1000XM5 which in ear and amazing but over £200
Sennheiser have over ears ones blue tooth and wires which also amazing but again over £200

Greenartywitch · 06/05/2025 08:40

Thank you for all the advice everyone! it is really helpful.

I would like to keep the budget at £200 max if possible.

How are the headphones @Greenartywitch ?
I am always on the look out for a decent pair as I am really clumsy and tend to break mine

Greenartywitch · 18/05/2025 08:25

@ScottBakula I am really enjoying wearing them!

They were delivered very quickly, are comfortable to wear and seem sturdy enough not to break :). Good sound & noise cancellation.

That's great news @Greenartywitch , bose are good, which model did you get ?

dudsville · 18/05/2025 10:13

I'm curious to follow up some of these suggestions. I've tried the most recommended Bose and Sony ones and thought the NC aspect pitiful. I was then leant a pair of ear defenders from a builder, and found them to be just as good, i.e, still not good enough but actually equally good. All 3 gave me an equal level of protection in that they provided a little distance from the noise, but it was still clear as day, not struggle to hear anything at all, could follow conversations, etc. My current attempt is the NC ear buds by loop, which will have an added bonus of not giving me a headache from the pressure of the headphone. If these don't work then I may have to go back to listening to something in order to cancel out other things. The reason I stopped this is because it was overstimulating and I was left with "hearing" whatever I'd listened to on a loop for hours after.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 18/05/2025 10:16

I have found this and tend to have a go-to list of things I can listen to without being overstimulated- usually some type of classical music but I have to be quite picky with it. More handel's water music than orff's carmina burana

Greenartywitch · 18/05/2025 21:18

@ScottBakula I got the Bose Quiet Comfort ones https://www.johnlewis.com/bose-quietcomfort-noise-cancelling-over-ear-wireless-bluetooth-headphones-with-mic-remote/p110950051

They were on sale though when I got them :) but seem to be back to their normal price now.

I wish I could afford the Quiet Comfort Ultra Headphones as apparently they are the best ones in term of noise cancellation.

Sorry posted in error!

ScottBakula · 18/05/2025 23:15

Thanks @Greenartywitch I will put them on my wish list for when I ( inevitably) break my current ones.
