Can these blouse sleeves be altered?

Looking for mumsnetters who know something about altering clothes. I do know of someone locally, but want to know this is a reasonable ask before I contact her.

I bought this blouse and love it apart from the puffy sleeves, which make me look like the Michelin man. Could a good seamstress unpick where the sleeves meet the blouse and make "normal" short sleeves instead?

Envious of you ladies with the talent to do this. I get frustrated threading a sewing machine and have to get the instructions out to fill a spool.

Yes, but it will cost you more than you paid for the blouse!

Came here to say this. It needs more than a person who can take up the hem of a dress. They'll need recutting through either using a pattern, or someone that can do pattern cutting themselves.

I could do this myself but it’s fiddly.
The shirt will be very drab and mannish without those details.
Totally agree with Bippity “ it’s work, it would not be a quick fix. “
I got fed up of “friends “ asking me to do alterations like this. They completely under estimate how much time this takes .

Even if you take the sleeves off, undo the upper and lower gathering, then re-cut to shape for a more tailored sleeve - it is likely the arm hole will be too big, as they tend to cut it bigger for a puff sleeve rather than a tailored sleeve.

I agree with Breadcat. The armscyes look very deep so even if you could cut and reset the sleeves with fitted sleeve caps they would very likely not sit right and possibly pull across the chest area.

Its just a day blouse, its not worth the hassle (unpicking overlocking is a pain) or expense and I wouldn’t want to waste someone else’s time on it if they offer to do it cheap or free.

Just sell it on Vinted and get a blouse more to your taste.
